Hearing on Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3 ended prematurely at Kwekwe Theatre in Kwekwe after Melody Chingarande, the only person who opposed the Bill was booed and kicked out of the venue. A senior AirForce officer based at Magama Tongogara Airbase in Gweru, Stafford Ncube and Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Officer Commanding Midlands, Somemore Gate allegedly took a tractor and ploughed down 2023 opposition Parliamentary candidate for Chirumhanzi South Constituency, Patrick Cheza's 3-week-old maize crop in a wrangle over a farm in Mvuma that the latter was allocated by the Ministry of Lands.The incident happened on Saturday and the total cost of the destroyed 2-hectares is US$2K. Matthew Takaona, an opposition Parliamentary candidate in the 2023 harmonised elections has donated a bed, US$120, kitchen utensils to Marshal Innocent Manhivi of Jaravaza Village under Chief Nyamandi in Gutu and his wife who lost a child (one-year-six-months old) and all property in an inferno that gutted down their house. Speaking at a prayer meeting to console the family, Takaona said it is shocking that there is no Government Official or Department that set foot on the homestead to find ways of assisting the family after it lost everything in December last year. Monica Mukwada, a former councillor and MP had the mic snatched from her by Zanu PF hooligans as she made her presentation at a Public Hearing on Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill in Mutare today. She had to be escorted out of the hall after the presentation due to threats of violence. She however, withered the storm as the hooligans booed her but still managed to make important points about the bill. She said that extending the terms of current MPs, Senators and the President is against the wishes of the people since the electorate no longer wants most of them. Further “when we sent the President, MPs and Senators to Parliament, our agreement was that they will be there until 2028. That position has not changed Mr chairman”. She said traditional leaders preside over court cases and judges cannot be politicians. She said the war was fought for one man one vote and allowing a few to vote for the President is contrary to that which thousands of Zimbabweans lost their lives for. A Muslim man was left bitter recently after Police barred him from entering the High Court in Masvingo on account of his religious dress. Adams Asipu (78) who had travelled from Harare to attend a relative’s bail case was dressed in a thawb, an ankle-length garment with long sleeves, like a robe. He was chased away from the courtroom in the presence of a Masvingo Mirror reporter. Asipu was approached by a Police officer as he sat in the reception area and told not to enter the courtroom. The third book launch of opposition politician Job Sikhala’s book, Footprints in the chains at Charles Austin Theatre in Masvingo on Friday night was disrupted by Zanu PF hooligans allegedly sponsored by a senior party official from Gutu. The youth attacked guests as journalist Matthew Takaona who was the main speaker delivered his speech. The notorious and well known youth from Rujeko and other suburbs of Masvingo broke furniture, threw tables at guests and threw away the books that were meant to be sold at the function. Takaona called for a healing process for communities in Mashonaland, Manicaland and Mutare Provinces for the orgy of violence that gripped these areas during the elections of 2000, 2002, 2005 and 2008, adding that people were left deeply divided. The third book launch of opposition politician Job Sikhala’s book, Footprints in the chains at Charles Austin Theatre in Masvingo on Friday night was disrupted by Zanu PF hooligans allegedly sponsored by a senior party official from Gutu. The youth attacked guests as journalist Matthew Takaona who was the main speaker delivered his speech. The notorious and well known youth from Rujeko and other suburbs of Masvingo broke furniture, threw tables at guests and threw away the books that were meant to be sold at the function. Takaona called for a healing process for communities in Mashonaland, Manicaland and Mutare Provinces for the orgy of violence that gripped these areas during the elections of 2000, 2002, 2005 and 2008, adding that people were left deeply divided.
