U gotta take that seriously. As someone’s who’s worked in a mental hospital once he walks in saying he has those thoughts you have to admit him. Also, he has a plan, it’s more serious than the wife is letting on.

As someone with OCD symptoms, what she did was incredibly dangerous. ERP can be a great skill to have, but not if it could potentially result in violence. There was zero need for her to endanger herself in that way and jeapordize her patient's safety too.

The fact that he knew it was a bad thought means his rational mind was active and his conscience was not distorted. But it doesn’t mean the demonic thoughts he was hearing couldn’t take over if his fear of them was increased. Exposure therapy still requires the ability to defer to the conscience in moments of doubt, and demonic thoughts like this can obscure that conscience. Of course, our conscience is God speaking and our faith in it is proportional to our faith in him - neither of which can be clinically measured - so it was “an extremely stupid thing to do”, unless God himself had instructed her.

As someone with OCD I'll try and describe best I can quickly for the ignorant comments. We all have thoughts, crazy, absolutely wild you'd never do irl thoughts. They pass, no issue, go about your day. OCD is when those thoughts don't dissipate, they linger, return, torture etc.

Hollyweird making individuals that have psychotic behaviors look easily curable. How many parents/spouces are already in denial that a person they love is dangerous. Then this feeding their hopes that it’s not as big a deal as it is. “Yeah he’s just a really nice guy with ocd.”

I am always amazed at how there is a psych consult in that emergency room right when a psych patient walks in. I mean that guy is right there the very second he is needed and in the real world it would take a month to get an appointment to see a psychiatrist.

This is a very common OCD presentation. People will have intrusive thoughts about doing their worst nightmare.

The person in the most danger is himself. The fact that the thoughts caused him so much distress is proof that he’d only ever hurt himself to protect his wife from the perceived threat that is himself. No if he said he heard voices telling him to do it that’s a different story.

It takes a strong and courageous person to accept that they have a serious problem and seek help for it.
