@BeerBicepsGuy His headline too was misleading , he is blaming arranged marriage which is wrong. Issue is marrying within family. Marrying someone from completely different region / state / country too comes with lot of unknowns. You might know the person but not the background.

This is true for ancient times,& during endogamy But Gotra doesn't play a role in Exogamy. I'm a Kashyap of Bengal so Gotra ll play a factor only if she is of Bengal If she is from from far east,south,west,Gotra won't play a role

Jains follow the gotra system even today. Mother, Father, Grandmother (paternal side and maternal side) - can't marry with a partner having gotras matching with any of the above in their family.

Marrying within a family is one thing and Gotra system is the other! It's unlikely that a Kashmiri Brahmin and a Tamil Brahmin sharing the same 'Gotra' would exhibit significant genetic similarities.
