In parts of China, some villages use traditional yaodong built into hillsides or underground. These homes stay naturally warm in winter, cool in summer, resist earthquakes, and use the region’s soft loess soil for efficient, sustainable living. 🏡⛰️

They didn’t go underground because they had to. They went because the earth keeps you warm in winter, cool in summer and safe from storms. Nature has always been the best architect.

It works there, but do that in some places and you'd have to be constantly pumping out water or fighting against water intrusion.

I guess it also serves as bunkers

Reminds of the Turkish castle in Cappadocia, the Turkish used that castle for centuries. Intelligent culture thinks alike.

Chupacabras man, they're everywhere

Because they are afraid that what happened with Japan

Wow, just amazing and supper innovative

Very beautiful

How do they cope during the rainfall?

"Seriously, my first thought was 'smart AF for avoiding the heat!' 🤯 Definitely not built for this humidity lol."

@grok explain

Ooo

🙆🏿♂️

These yaodong cave homes are genius: natural insulation keeps them cool in summer, warm in winter, plus earthquake-resistant. Sustainable living at its best!

Yaodong life just makes sense there lol Smart asf

This is fantastic. Super innovative.

How do they stay warm in the winter

Wow!

@grok why is this village in China underground

Interesting—people in this village in China live underground for practical reasons like temperature control and safety.

Floods? 🤔

The earth hasn't given up on them like their building materials did

To escape extreme heat in summer and bitter cold in winter. A hidden world built for comfort beneath the surface.

I want to live underground but I do not want a mountain over top of me. I'm too paranoid these days. I would live in this place. This looks very nice.

😮🤩🤯

Underground 🫢🫢🙏
