Great example of this was Greece when they had to file bankruptcy because they could not print their own currency. The EU bailed them out with the Euro with "conditions". You are correct that Poland having its own currency and now being a G20 economic challenger gives them some power that the EU hates.

The Polish currency is ZLOTY - Say "zlot" (like slot with a 'z') followed by "ee" (ZLOT-ee). It stems from the Polish word " gold"
