why pretty privilege isn’t real (especially for autistic women)

Pretty privilege does exist but if you're a minority that trumps the privilege. You could be a beautiful black woman but bigots will still oppress you for being black

I agree and that’s why I think we need a better way to discuss desirability politics than “pretty privilege.” being considered conventionally attractive doesn’t protect women from misogyny, for example, even if it may change the ways misogyny is expressed toward you

The way neurotypical/allistic people constantly seek status by attaching themselves to people they consider to have social capital (looks, money) is so leechy and entitled and makes no sense. Like……you have literally none of the traits you’re looking for in other people.

All I've ever heard my whole life is that I'm up myself and think I'm better than everyone. I am also Autistic and attractive. It's exhausting.

I think there’s a lot to be said about how women specifically are punished for not being socially accommodating & approachable & how frustrating this is for autistic/ND women who are far less likely to behave this way

Agreed!

Braindead vid...she literally described what exact perks being pretty gives you and then added baggage of ableism and misogyny that ugly autistic girls also face🙈

idk if ur referring to the OP or to my response, but my intention was to point out that a lot of the “perks” associated w/ being considered desirable as a woman are not truly perks & that this kind of attention also carries a lot of specific risks & downsides bc of misogyny

What you're describing has nothing to do with pretty priviledge.

Its fascinating & depressing how when ppl notice someone quiet & separated they assume why by attraction. “She’s pretty, so she must know this & think she’s better than me.” Or “he’s not appealing, so the only possibility is he’s shy” Stop projecting this “better” or “worse” crap

Hygiene and professionalism > aesthetics

Big facts.

I agree but not everyone has access to status, esp ND ppl who struggle with socializing + being attractive is usually not enough. what’s most fulfilling for me is surrounding myself w/ ppl I genuinely like who enjoy spending time w me & are uninterested in status :)

dude. I just said I don’t want to or need to do that lol please stop trying to advertise your self-help grift on my post 💀 also half of what you’re saying doesn’t make sense

I’m so sorry….males are so terrible…you are so strong….that sounds horrible to go through..

when people receive advantages due to attractiveness that’s pretty privilege. The negative experiences aren’t caused by being pretty it’s caused by ableism and misogyny. An autistic woman who isn’t seen as attractive could still face the same discrimination as an “ugly” woman 💔
