It is interesting that Nazis were convicted even though they were merely following orders—whereas the crew of the Enola Gay, who were also following orders, were not convicted...

How boomer glorified war and killing innocent people was their way of life. Millions civilians were killed by Americans on that day.

Internally carried bombs were usually armed after take off. Nothing new except maybe a Navy officer doing it in an Army aircraft.

August 6, 1945 On this day 81 years ago, the B-29 Enola Gay dropped the uranium gun-type atomic bomb “Little Boy” on Hiroshima, Japan — the first nuclear weapon ever used in combat. Navy Captain William S. “Deak” Parsons armed the bomb in flight. He crawled into the bomb bay after takeoff from Tinian and completed the final assembly by flashlight because of the real risk that a crash on takeoff could detonate it and destroy the entire base. The weapon exploded at approximately 1,900 feet over the city. History.
