Our culture is downstream of our spirituality. We are engaged in a spiritual war. As Westerners we often overlook the fact that it is Christianity that is at the root of all the truly noteworthy things that Western civilisation has introduced. Things like: Human rights, the value of human life, compassion for the sick, building of hospitals, schools and universities, women's rights, the value of infants, abolition of slavery, huge scientific development and advancement etc are all the result of the transformative teachings of Jesus Christ (although the enemy has since subverted many of these things). This is all demonstrable. No serious historian or scholar questions this. Even Atheists acknowledge this. Tom Holland, in his book 'Dominion – how Christian revolution remade the world,' explores the idea of human rights and the value of human individuals and confirms all came from Christianity, not from paganism that preceded it. Douglas Murray, another, said we need to have an Atheist version of the sanctity of the individual, if we can’t do that, we need to go back to Christianity because it’s that which provided us with one. So Christianity is at the very least good. But is it true? The God of the Bible, Jesus Christ/Yahweh, instructs us "to test all things and hold fast to what is true/good" - 1 Thessalonians 5:21 Jesus says "By their fruit you shall know them!" - Matthew 7:16 So let us briefly contemplate the fruit of European Christendom and compare it with the fruit of every pagan or currently apostate nation. Consider the rich array of devout Christian "influencers" such as : Alfred the Great, Elizabeth I, Charlemagne, Horatio Nelson, Joan of Arc, Charles Martel, William Wallace, Montgomery, Bach, Mozart, Elgar, Wagner, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Leonardo Da Vinci , Vermeer, Michaelangelo, Caravaggio, Francis Bacon, Venerable Bede, William Tyndale, Edmund Burke, Tsar Nicholas II, Velázquez, Francis of Assisi, Dante, Thomas Aquinas, Francis Drake, Christopher Columbus, The Brothers Grimm, Dante, Durer, Titian, Rubens, Raphael, El Greco, Matisse, Chaucer, William Shakespeare, William Blake, Julian of Norwich, Vivaldi, Sibelus, Hegel, Kant, Solzhenitsyn, Kierkegaard, Isaac Newton, Charles Babbage, Robert Boyle, Michael Faraday, J.R.R Tolkien, Jane Austen, Jonathan Swift, William Wilberforce, William Wordsworth, Robert Burns, Elizabeth Fry, Florence Nightingale, Eric Liddell, Ernest Shackleton, Ranulph Fiennes, John Ruskin, C.S Lewis, Hans Christian Andersen, Thomas Hardy, Charles Dickens, Evelyn Waugh, Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte, T. S. Eliot, John Milton, Tolstoy, John Bunyan and Fyodor Dostoevsky to name but a tiny fraction. Our world has been totally transformed by the teachings and Spirit of Jesus Christ. History evidences this very clearly. The leaven of the Kingdom of God can be vividly witnessed on earth. "I want to see a mighty flood of justice, an endless river of righteous living." - Amos 5:24 "The Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit." - Romans 14:17 "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance!" - Psalm 33:12 Our collective cutting adrift from Christianity has dire consequences, the ramifications of which are widely seen today. May we see a huge Christian revival and may righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit prevail once again in the West!
