When you have enough experience, passthrough RJ45s are pointless. Only for beginners.

If you had skills, you don’t need expensive pass-through connectors.

No passthroughs were harmed in the making of the real network room rack. In my 30+ years of networking I have never and will never use a passthrough piece of junk.

If you don't practice the real way you're never going to learn. This is like training wheels. And they don't work with regular crimpers.

Back when I was an IT contractor in the late 90s, I tried to explain to a tokin ring network engineer that he had to maintain the twist on RJ45 ethernet connections when punching down terminals. He was untwisting about a foot of each wire and punching them into the female connector, then wrapping the excess around his hand and stuffing if all back into the ethernet receptical wall housing. I explained about EMI/RFI and how the twist maintains the magnetic field to resist EMI to get maximum throughput. He made fun of me in a meeting, saying that I warned him about "waves in the air". He then advised going back to Coaxial Tokin Bus and tokin ring because 100 mbps ethernet only really had 1 maps throughput. 😏 I left that gig, and went o work somewhere else.

I hate the pass-thru connectors. Only for the weak!

The pass-through RJ45 is the clip-on tie of the IT world.

Huge fan of pass through. 2 things stick out in this demo. Using the sheath to untwist the wires and cutting the wires at an angle. I’ll have to try those next time I terminate a cable.

That was horrible

not a single one in the comment gives a reason why they hate passthrough connectors.

I've crimped THOUSANDS of RJ45's without passthrough and NEVER had one as horrible as shown! That's intentional slop to sell a product that isn't needed! I bought a pass-through recently to try it. It's actually HARDER because the wires have to be just right to fit under the cutter!

I solder my cables directly onto my motherboard. Best way to do things.

I have made some really clean non passthrough ones. You have to cut the cables dead perpendicular and at the right length. It's not hard

Standard is easy with a little practice. Pass-throug leaves you prone to shorts and emf int. Its for ametures.

Or you could use keystones into a patch panel and pre-made patch cables into the switch

this was the most painful tipping I've seen in over 20 years. Yeah, if you have 3 inches of individual wires, it can look like that. After the first few, you get an idea of how long to make them. The passedthrough wire can prevent seating or cause premature failure that just doesn't happen with standard connectors. Who is unravelling twisted pairs like that? 1.5/10 stars - probably failed CCNA *and* network+

EZ-RJ (passthrough) connectors are the worst. When the blade on the tool gets a little dull, it leaves a short stubs on the wire. Those stubs prevent the connectors from seating correctly in switches and can easily short together which causes all kinds of problems. Fuck EZ-RJs.

Ok. These guys are so dramatic in these videos... 😂 Nobody does or let someone do that; if so, he's a Uber driver right now... Yes. Pass through Rj45 is a thing.

There’s a large following that acts like this is a cardinal sin that will short ever switch you could think of using. In reality it’s more convenient and faster, if you have a real concern of a short due to moisture put some dielectric grease on it.

Be carefull pass thru means something else in networking. Modern switches hand that kind of pass thru. Unrelated, snagless so much better.

Those kind of RJ45 tips are a really shitty design. They let in moisture & can cause rusting & swelling, damaging the wires & the conducting contacts inside the tip.

For the most part pass through seem to be a solution for a minimal problem, just learn to do it properly, the "alternative" example is just atrocious

Passthroug is good for CAT6E and CAT7 cable , they are so hard to move and connect

Dang, and I been throwing them all away. Is that Rick James music by the way?

Use the ones with the internal sled instead of pass through. Same idea but the copper tips of the wires aren’t exposed afterwards.

That middle bit? yeah I like to pull up on that before cutting it.. so it goes back below the end.. helps allow for better connection when shoving them through pass thru RJ45 ends.. get bit more outer cover under the crimp that helps hold the jacket.. also - No boot? oof.
