Why was Wanda destroying the Mind Stone while holding Thanos off instead of just fighting him full-force?

Vision begged her to do it, and she was the only one who could actually break it because her powers came from that same stone. So she had to split her focus , one part holding him back with everything she had, the other ripping the stone apart while the man she loved was still attached to it. She was buying seconds, not trying to win a fight. And then the Time Stone just rewound the whole thing like it never happened. That moment still wrecks me.
