Why will Boston Dynamics win the humanoid robotics race? We've already commercialized autonomous mobile robots, creating markets with Spot and Stretch. Now we're doing it again with Atlas: learning in real environments, designing for manufacturing at scale, and introducing a new era of physical intelligence.

No chance you guys have had decades before everyone else and yet figure an Optimus have done way more impressive things from what ive seen then atlas an yall will never scale as fast as Elon even though you have the ability too but you will play it safe an lose.

For basic warehousing/industrial tasks requiring minimal/no fine motor skills - you will probably be the first to have a useful humanoid reducing human labour needs in those low skilled roles. Anything requiring skill, long CoT reasoning, and high dexterity fine motor tasks, you will not win that race. There will be room for many players however, and not all need to come first to be useful. The future will be awesome

To be very fair, you are losing public opinion by bringing Atlas to conferences and keeping it powered off. You have a secure cage setup with Spot and Stretch walking around so not moving Atlas is a major miss. Apptronik's Apollo 2 was 20 feet from you at IMTS moving around.

i think you should have them jump into a vat of molten steal @Figure_robot

A Chinese humanoid robot won the race :)

Spot and Stretch already pay rent. That's the part most humanoid pitches skip. In my house the robot that stays is the one useful today, not the one promised for next year.

please win it by shipping robots that work, not robots that wave at investors

Everyone is gonna lose their jobs

Please design your robot to work at home after your robot works well in the car factory.

The winner will be whoever creates an effective and efficient solution for teaching robots to operate in the real world... without that, all this crap is practically useless.

Feels a bit curated. You need the hockey sticks get this thing in the rain in the parking lot, tripping over rocks slipping on icy puddles like the good old days.

@grok is Boston dynamic goal to get their robots to homes or only factories since I saw a 2 billion robots on the video

Boston Dynamics has an advantage that could become very valuable in the humanoid race.

😆

the robots do parkour and i pull a muscle reaching for the remote

The name "Atlas" has to be the most popular name in tech

I wish Boston Dynamics were doing more, Unitree is smashing them, I grew up watching Boston Dynamics and unitree the new guy on the block has smashed Boston Dynamics already. We love you Boston Dynamics but you got to do better to be out in front

BD was always years ahead everyone else in robotics from my pov. Now the pressure from new competitors is rising. But I'm not sure if I want to see them winning.. China could be quicker at lowering cost and distributing this technology to the world.

What's actually holding Atlas back from real warehouses right now? The software, or just how much each robot costs to build?

Commercializing Spot and Stretch is the real argument here, not the Atlas demo. The humanoid race won't be won by the best backflip, it's won by whoever already knows how to ship and support a fleet in the field. Manufacturing and reliability beat the reel.

Awesome!!

entire team cooking 🔥

Inspection walks are how Spot got onto jobs. The Atlas in that shot was powered off next to Apollo 2, which was moving around, and Apptronik's own posts call the IMTS booth a meet-and-greet. A clip a super can send to the trailer is the test. Apptronik has aimed 2027 commercial quantities at manufacturing and logistics pilots, not jobsites, per Reuters. Hyundai's published Atlas start is parts sequencing in 2028.

I was thinking a duo. Like a high/low set up. For someone who is medically infirm, there would be an Atlas to put you in the tub and an Optimus to be your companion.

A lot of noise on Figure AI but probably not enough from Boston Dynamics. In every technological race always be mindful of the discreet long-term player

Eventually AGI is going to beat you guys.

What’s the first job Atlas keeps for a full shift that Spot or Stretch couldn’t already do?

Yeah Bostondynamics was some of the first real robotics researchers in the USA and has the ability to capture a large part of the market, well known name and trusted leader in the technology world with a headstart in the sector. I'm cheering you guy's on expecting big things. 🦾

You lost when you were memeing with bulls and shit. Now you are not even competing.

The number of robots needed to compete is going to be over 1k per month in early 2027. By 2028 it might be 10k. Fleet learning and scaling won the Autonomous taxi domain. The same is likely true for humanoids.

Could use an electric domestic dog friend/companion/guard. Under$500...

The strongest argument here isn't Atlas, it's Spot and Stretch. Selling robots teaches you the unglamorous stuff: service, uptime, spare parts, customer training. Most humanoid startups haven't had to learn that yet. What's Atlas's uptime target at the Metaplant?
