4x is nothing. It did a 6x in the 2000s and a 22x in the 70s. Gold will atleast do a 6x.

If I were to long gold, I would prefer to do it through futures, not owning physical gold or ETF. The latter doesn't pay an interest income. The former pays an interest income from the USD collateral, which is attractive given the high short-term interest rate today.
