This piece is 4 years old, and in artist years, that feels like a lifetime. So much can change in that time. Your style, your skill, your perspective. I usually have a hard time looking at my older work, especially anything more than a year old. I tend to focus on all the things I could’ve done better. But this one hits differently. It’s like that one song you used to listen nonstop during a specific time in your life. Every time you hear it, it instantly takes you back. Super nostalgic. That’s what this piece does for me. It reminds me of the younger DeeKay: full of curiosity, obsessed with the craft, completely immersed in the joy of creating. I’m still that person, but with a lot more responsibilities now. That purity I felt back then, I don’t ever want to lose it. I want to keep making art that moves people. I want to stay playful. I don’t want to grow up.

Sometimes, when you want somebody to know a truth, it's so you can set them up to believe a lie, and that's coming. I have zero doubt that lie is coming." Producer: "What is the lie?" Toni Collette had told her agent that she didn't want to do any more heavy, dark films and only wanted to do comedies, but she liked the "Hereditary" (2018) script so much she couldn't turn it down. I'm going to be controversial here. I would love to pay to have my entire series animated. I would hope one day my books get picked up and this becomes a reality. But being realistic it's not going to happen. I will draw, write my own works and commission artists where i can. But seeing this, is a dream come true for me, even if its Ai. I'm glad that the original picture is my own hand. Hate all you want. It's okay to like things and I like seeing this in a way that would take a life time snd a shit load of money to do. How much I want to see this for real one day.

I love this idea from Jason Fried "Your only competition is your costs." Keep costs low, keep the team small, make stuff you want to use. You don't need the whole world: “A business is very simple. You got to make more than you spend. If you're making more than you spend, then your competition is your cost. That's what you're really in business against, how much it costs you to stay in business. It's not all the other alternatives that are on the market. You can't control what they're going to put out there, what they're going to price it at, all the things they're going to do. They're going to do what they're going to do. What I can control is how much it costs me to run my business, how much I sell my product for, and as long as I make more than I spend, I get to stay in business. And isn't that what this is all about, staying in business? That's what it's all about because I like this. I want to keep doing this. I can't keep doing it if I don't stay in business. I can't keep doing it if I make less than it costs me to make the things that I make. So I'm always thinking about the only competition I really have on an annual basis is to make sure that we make more as a company than it costs us to run the company. That's my real competition.”
