As far back as July, The Grayzone’s Max Blumenthal explained that the barrage of media attacks on African Stream from outlets such... as NBC was designed to provide a fund of information to be used by Wikipedia. Regarded by many as a reliable source, this Wiki info is then used to shape public perceptions and even fed into AI models. Since the Max Blumenthal interview, apart from NBC, African Stream has been attacked by the US state-funded Voice of America, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and the Stanford Internet Observatory. No evidence has been provided for any of the allegations pressed. While disappointing, Western hypocrisy and double standards are not surprising. We only need to look at the treatment of figures like Julian Assange and Edward Snowden to realise that US claims of being a bastion of democracy and a defender of media freedom are mere posturing. A leaked document titled the 'Adaptive Country Plan Research' - obtained by West Africa Weekly's David Hundeyin - reveals the extent of the on-going information war in Africa. In this clip, Hundeyin details how African journalists are used by NGOs to smear anti-imperialist individuals such as himself, as well as platforms like African Stream. The document was assembled by the Centre for Information Resilience (CIR) and circulated to 10 Nigerian journalist who took part in a private retreat at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, Ghana. In it, unfounded claims by former US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken - that African Stream is a Russian propaganda outfit - are regurgitated, citing sources that fail to produce any evidence. DAVID HUNDEYIN EXPLAINS U.S. ATTACK ON AFRICAN STREAM To make sense of social-media giants Meta, TikTok and YouTube suspending African Stream and other alternative media outlets, Breakthrough News’ Eugene Puryear (@eugenepuryear) and Rania Khalek (Rania Khalek) spoke to Nigerian investigative journalist David Hundeyin (David Hundeyin). However, at the time of this interview, TikTok had not yet permanently banned African Stream. Hundeyin explained how the bans proves the point African Stream has long maintained: That the US is an imperialist power. With the flick of a finger, 1.5 billion continental Africans and 200 million in the diaspora lost access to a critical source of information that sought to unify people of African descent globally and encourage sovereignty and liberty for the continent. Hundeyin also laid out the historical context behind the seemingly incessant US desire to control the narrative. However, he offered a glimmer of hope as the US is notorious for scoring its own goals. For example, recent US attempts to stifle China’s economic rise have backfired by disrupting the China-US supply chain, increasing operating costs and reducing US companies' competitiveness, according to a recent US Federal Reserve Bank of New York report. MODIBO: THE STORY OF MALI’S PAN-AFRICAN REVOLUTIONARY LEADER Modibo Keïta was Mali's foremost pan-African leader. While not as widely known among English-speaking audiences as other greats from the continent, he was one of Africa's most important figures in the revolutionary socialist movement for independence. This documentary, produced by African Stream, offers a closer look at his life, politics and legacy, particularly in the context of the new anti-imperialist movement sweeping the Sahel. Keïta was the first staunchly pan-African, anti-colonial head of state in the Sahel region. Who was he? What mark did he leave on the Mali of today? These are the questions we explore. African Stream officially closed down operations on July 1st, but there were a few projects that we were still working on. One of them was a documentary on Modibo Keïta that we initially lost when Google took down our G Drive. However, due to the team's hard work, we were able to start from scratch, and here it is. While Africans argue about which of the African-resource-evacuation/Lobito-Corridor parties in DC to support in November (because the U.S. is really a militarised 1-party state divided only on issues like pronouns, Algerian Olympic boxers, and fictitious cat-eating Haitians), consider this: US Secretary of State Secretary Antony Blinken yesterday accused African Stream of being part of a global "Russian propaganda network" while announcing new sanctions against RT. African Stream's YouTube channel, on which I was scheduled to begin hosting a new podcast from next month, has since been suspended by Google. It is the latest in a tried-and-tested American habit of giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it. In the 19th century, Dr. Samuel Adolphus Cartwright from Mississippi theorised that Africans escaping from slave plantations must be afflicted with a mental problem because slavery was such an elevation from the natural status of an African that any African seeking to be free must be mentally ill. He called the proposed mental illness "Drapetomania," and he published multiple papers suggesting corrective treatments for "Drapetomania." A century later, during the Cold War, the US State Department and CIA began doing something similar whenever they decided to carry out an assassination or regime change. The CIA accused Patrice Lumimba of being a Soviet-linked Communist, and he was subsequently captured, tortured, murdered and dissolved in sulphuric acid by their Belgian proxies. The same people also accused Kwame Nkrumah of being a Soviet-linked communist, and the 1966 coup in Ghana was the result. Whenever any African leader emerged with a vision for national or regional growth and independence, the immediate accusation that followed was "The Russians are sponsoring him." It is a core tenet of American propaganda that Africa is fundamentally not supposed to have ideas, ideologies, thinkers, voices and leaders of its own - the continent exists for mining cheap resources and sending them to the coasts to be shipped to the Places Where Human Beings Actually Live. Africans, you see, are apparently far too stupid and unevolved, with our behind-the-bell-curve gorilla brains, to actually come up with ideas, voices and plans for our own future that do not coincide with the Western model. So when we do come up with these things, there is only one explanation - the Russians did it. Every single African liberation movement was accused of being Communist Russia's creation because Africans wanting to be free, independent, and economically prosperous must be a symptom of Drapetomania. Even Nelson Mandela, prior to his rebranding as Jesus Morgan Christ Freeman, was also accused of being indoctrinated and sponsored by the Russians. Unfortunately, the Lobito Corridor People are not capable of changing their worldview or adopting new tactics, because here we are in big 2024 and Blinken is here accusing me and the guys in Nairobi of being Russian government cutouts. This tells me 2 very important things: 1.) The work that African Stream and others in the non-western-controlled African media space are doing is having a real effect in cutting through decades of foreign propaganda and raising the independent consciousness of the new generation of internet-savvy young Africans. While in Rwanda delivering lectures on development at African Leadership University , I was interviewed by Le360 Afrique to share my reflections on the newly launched graduate school founded by the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame and the former Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Hailemariam Dessalegn. I expressed, without hesitation, that those of us committed to Pan-Africanism welcome the establishment of this school with open arms. I emphasized that the African policymaker cannot be authentically shaped within institutions that were not founded on the philosophical imperative of African liberation. I made it clear that the era of merely blaming the African state has passed. We are now in a season of building state capacity, reclaiming intellectual sovereignty, and designing governance systems grounded in our own historical and cultural realities. The African School of Governance (ASG) represents a bold step in that direction—a move away from dependency and mimicry, and toward self-defined, contextually rooted solutions. It was my honor today to present a Palestinian Kufiyeh to her excellency Dr. Naledi Pandor, the South African minister of International relations, to express our love and gratitude as Palestinians to the people of South Africa. It was a symbolic gift and act from us as a token of love, unity and solidarity. It is symbolic, to take the kufiyeh from a shoulder of a Palestinian and place it on the shoulder of a South African leader, and acknowledge that today South Africans carries our cross as Palestinians with us upon their shoulders.
