Commentary: Violent protest is not OK. Ever. If you’re mad at Elon Musk, you can’t burn other people’s vehicles. That’s not free speech. It’s a crime. We have to stop dehumanizing political opponents to the point that this sort of behavior is celebrated by some on here.

Calling for death and murder does not fall under die ambit of freedom of speech. Freedom of speech does not imply that speech cannot have consequences. Calling for people to be cancelled because they say things you disagree with, but then claiming to be an advocate for free speech when you incite murder is two-faced dishonesty. Employers have a right to know if their employees encourage racial extermination and murder on social media. We desperately need freedom of speech. We also need certain rules to maintain it.

Each of us gets to express our opinions freely in the manner we choose including Jake Lang, so if you're a Conservative criticizing him for his methods in Minneapolis and suggesting he deserved the beating he took then you don't really believe in free speech or Conservatism. You may not like Jake or his methods, but at least he's showing up to try and make a difference while everyone else tweets about it.
