Eko Atlantic is a well planned project unlike the Lekki peninsula. The issues of flooding in Lekki is because of bad drainage systems on the expressway and streets across the Eti Osa local government areas.

This is WHY Lekki-Lagos Floods.

I was the one that did the pop and wall screening and painting on the first building in eko Atlantic under ITB. The engineers that did sand filling and pilling foundation told that eko Atlantic is warranty of 1000 years.

As a civil engineer I’m telling you Eko Atlantic can not sink or get flooded, in fact that city saved VI from sinking.

Yea they should go chase people out of their villages and plan for the rich to settle,,,what a take !

Duru Bond's profile picture

You are right. Lagos should remain a big swampy village with huts and canoes.

SmartNG's profile picture
SmartNG5 months ago

Not saying it should remain a village.but govt can also develop the villages via the local governments and cda without chasing away villagers and rendering them homeless, the housing units been built you know that’s for the rich and corrupt civil servants,,n it’s by who you know

I still don’t see how asking government to plan an area properly equates to chasing poor people away.

You and I know how Nigerian govt works,,our govt is lazy ,,instead being meticulous and considering residents they rather uproot and destroy everything just to get more allocations for bogus contracts to party supporters ,,poor people are people too who have rights to live

The best location to stay in Lekki is JAKANDE, From circle mall to Pinnock beach estate down to NICON town, you can never see flood around there because the canal around those axis are so widely built

I can tell you that 98% (to be a generous) didn't carry out topographic survey before, during and after construction(as-built). At this point, things cannot be straightened out, "we" can't bear the pain of restating, so many things have gone wrong with govt planning administrati

Yes it will sink in future not only eko Atlantic but entire Lagos will be covered with water in future

It will not happen immediately, but over time it will be sinking little by little. The reason why it will not happen immediately is because Lagos is not at the edge of thr tectonic plate rather it seats in the centre of the plate. It will happen but not as fast as we can imagine

Yes, town planning should happen before people go to settle in those areas. This is what Nigerian Institutions and govt responsible for town planning have failed to do all these years

Urban development mechanism should be engineered in areas from Awoyaya down to Epe for proper urbanisation and New Lagos mantra.

Eko Altlantic will definitely sink at some point in the future. Ikoyi too. Just a matter of time. The Ocean needs to breathe and the ice are melting in the Atlantic.

You would be hated for this, my recent trip to lagos was in August 2025 and I couldn’t spend a week as I planned why? The standard of living was too chaotic and everywhere stinks including BANANA island 🤭

Geologically, Lagos is already experiencing localized sinking through: * natural sediment compaction, * groundwater extraction, * dredging and sand mining, * land reclamation, * wetland destruction, * and heavy urban loading.

Most of Lagos Island, Victoria Island, Lekki, and nearby coastal districts lie only about 0–5 meters above sea level. Because the terrain is extremely flat, even small increases in sea level or land subsidence significantly increase flooding risk.

Well to be sincere being a geologist half of Lagos will be flooded in the next 600 years. It may sound like oh this is far time blah blah but it’s there because Lagos geology as a whole between 200-100m below sea level. This can be overlaps due to ocean current and water level

Government can build bigger drainage to hold more water volume to solve the problem or turn some road to under ground storage Like s mini Tokyo drainage system

Lagos sits within the eastern Dahomey Basin and near the western margin of the Niger Delta Basin, on a low lying coastal barrier lagoon system made up of unconsolidated sands, muds, peat, and alluvial sediments. These sediments are weak, compressible, and naturally prone to subsi
