Will I ever be able to do a single pull-up? 😭 Right now, all I can do is dead-hang and hope for the best. 😒 Fitness community, what helped you get your first pull-up?

Assisted pull-up, negatives (where you jump up to the top of a pull up position, and slowly lower yourself down), and scapular pulls. In the dead hang, pull your scapulas down (the initial part of a pull up), hold for 5 seconds. You'll get there! 💪

This is really helpful. I'll try this. Thanks 🙏

@YellowSnowman36 IMO, negatives work the best. Try not to jump into them, like climb up, get in position, and then do a slo, controlled drop. I went from doing 2 to 165 (multiple sets).

@YellowSnowman36 Alright. Thanks alot.🙏

I started with assisted pull-ups..

How does that work?

The answer is YES, you will be able to and this is an excellent first step. What helped me was doing a lot of assisted pull ups as well as extra back work. Keep going - you got this!

That day is coming sooner than you expect 💪🏻

Use an easier grip (chin up or neutral) and a leg drive and then do a proper negative. Your first pullup isn't gonna be strict with a wide overhand grip. But once you can pull yourself up at all you can work towards a stricter form.

Lose body fat. I've been stuck at 10 reps forever, and it's because I need to lose 30lbs of fat. I'll hit 30 reps by the time I do, but damn is it tough to cut weight. I don't know what the secret is, to something that's supposed to be easy?

Am I that fat?😭

No no, not at all. I've been stuck at 25% BF for ... since I got married 15 years ago, lol. You're doing great. I'm just saying me personally, losing body fat has increased my pullup count, in a way that simply 'do MOAR pullups' has not.

Okay, I get you😂. I guess I'll have to lose some fat as well.

Well done grace

Thanks, Will.

Start with negatives - Chin over bar to start (use a box) then lower yourself as slowly as possible. Progress to band assisted PUs. Go through different band thicknesses until you're using a light band, then try it without any help.

Try a neutral grip... You are just not strong enough yet. Yo will get it

I know I'm not very strong yet...that's why I'm working so hard🙈

Google “grease the groove pull ups”. Start with assisted.

Try to increase the duration of your dead hangs. Assisted pullups machines help. You can take help of that to increase your strength. Soon you'll be able to get your first bodyweight pullup. Then you build up on that. Let's go! 💪🏻

Just use the assisted pull-up machine and do progressive overload. You’ll get there in eventually. Dropping fat helps a ton too but I’m at around 24% and can still do pull-ups you just need to build strength

Try again

Lat pull downs. When you can pull about 80% or so for a set of 6, you should be able to do a pull up. Also, you could Google. Pull up progression routines are all over the internet.

Go to the assisted pullup machine, start getting those muscles stronger until you can go unassisted

Negatives worked best for me (F). The band helped too much at the bottom and not enough at the top. It’s better than no help. In the beginning i could barely do negatives, i could barely hold against. But train it twice a week (not too much you have to test too). You’ll get it!

Bring your hands closer together. Or try neutral grip first. And do lat pull downs regularly. Lots of ways to get there.

Start working on negatives Also use resistance bands to help you

Find a weight assisted pull up machine or stretch a fitness band to assist you in the pull up, build the primary strength with that assistance and you will be doing them unassisted in no time..go crush it

Start with narrow, not wide

I thought of that too. I shouldn't have widened my hands.

Honestly what got me my first pull up was practicing push ups and using the lat pulldown machine. If you can support your bodyweight (push ups) and engage your lats with heavy load (lat pull-down), then you can do a pull up.

Aim for chin ups first instead of pull ups

Kindly show me please. How does that work?

Chinups are comparitively easier than pull ups…it requires force from biceps and dont expand lats in a big way hence less strain. It will give the confidence of pulling yourself up rather than just hanging. After that you can try pullups.

YES U WILL DO IT!

I am on the same Page

Learn to engage your scapula.

1 use resistance bands for an assist 2 bring your hands closer together when you are first starting out

You'll get there. Keep at it.

Here are a few tips and exercises: Dead hangs Horizontal pullups. They built the exact same muscle groups you need for a vertical pull up. By keeping your feet on the floor and adjusting the angle you can control the percentage of your body weight you are lifting and make it harder over time. If you can do those on rings because they train the needed stability even more.

Yes, you will do it. Maybe you get someone to assist you first before you start pulling on your own.

Okay officer, I will. Thank you.

You are welcome

Need to do negative pull ups really slow and assisted pull ups

Weighted up ups . Use a resistance band Or do barebell pullups.

Negatives is a great place to start, then add assisted.

Learning how to use my back.

Negatives, then bands, then body weight nobody can do one right outta the gate

Train a lot of lat pulldowns, bicep curls and work your way up to focusing on slow eccentric only pullups. That will get you there

Resistance bands help a lot

❓if you’re holding a fan’s hand and they trip and accidentally pull down your pants while falling, would you help up the fan first or pull up your pants first? 🐧 definitely the fan. the members pull down my pants a lot so i’m just really used to it now 🧸 i have great reflexes so if they were to pull down my pants…the moment they grab it, i’d go 🏋️…if i do that right away, they won’t go down so i’d do that (and help them up) 🧸 i absolutely never want my pants to be pulled down by someone’s hands that aren’t mine. i won’t let that happen ✋ 👤 wow…so cool…
