Pretty much anyone under 40 would have no idea the relevance of this brilliant social commentary.

It is the “I have made a legitimate and peaceful request for cheddar cheese and pineapple on a stick” that gets me.

@theRedByte Enfield tried out the character in Belfast before he appeared on TV, but at the time he was called James Ulsterman after James Molyneaux, then leader of the UUP. A mate of mine met Harry after the show and convinced him William would be a more appropriate name.

When we were allowed to do something called comedy and allowed to be funny.

Those politicians in NI should actually look at this right now. Perhaps they could laugh at themselves

As an Ulsterman... loved this sketch! Wish William Ulsterman had appeared more often. At the time it was rare for any Northern Irish characters to appear on national comedy programmes, or if they did with horrendous southern Irish accents!

Very good but would make one small correction. It’s not a piece of cheddar and pineapple on a stick, it’s stack. There’s no such thing as stick in Ulster

We had cheese and pineapple on a stick this Christmas specifically because of this sketch
