My dear friends, brothers and sisters On behalf of my sisters and the entire Akpata Family, I want to express our most sincere gratitude for the overwhelming love and support shown to my family as we laid to rest, our dear Dad, Granddad, Brother, Uncle and Father-in-law, Dr Henry Omorogieva Akpata on Friday 16 May 2025. As many of you know, I was very close to my Dad, and even though he lived well past 80 years of age, the pain of his demise was still quite intense. It has thus been a roller coaster of emotions for me - since 10 January, when he passed. This situation was, however, mitigated by the outpouring of love and support from all of you. It has simply been mind-blowing and indeed inspiring. I am deeply grateful and deeply humbled. Without a doubt, your visits, calls, prayers, gifts, and wise counsel have helped, in no small measure, to assuage my pain and sense of loss. I have always valued my friendships and relationships, but I must say that this experience has made me resolve to work extra hard at ensuring that I keep and cherish my friends and that I continue to be there for them in good and not so good times. God bless you all! As you have brought us great comfort, may you never lack helpers in your time of need. My only request is that you join me and my family in praying that my dear Dad will continue to rest peacefully with the Lord.🙏🏾

I am so proud to share that my bill The Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act passed the U.S Senate unanimously yesterday!! All 100 Senators stood for protecting children in youth residential treatment facilities and I couldn't have dreamed of a more powerful moment to be able to impact the system that harmed me. I am still in shock that my lived-experience, among the powerful survivor community, has been able to impact meaningful progress and change for the next generation of survivors. We still need this bill to get passed in the U.S House of Representatives to be signed by President Biden but WE ARE SO CLOSE! I am so grateful for the leadership of Chuck Schumer who has supported my initiative from the beginning, and to my bill sponsors Senator Jeff Merkley and Senator John Cornyn who I have had the honor to get to know personally and who have been the most dedicated, efficient, and collaborative bipartisan lawmakers. I am so lucky to have met you and to have worked with you on this!
