Yurii showed the conditions in which he and his wife are surviving through the winter on the first floor of a residential building in Kyiv. No electricity, hot water, or heating. The average temperature in the apartment is about 3°C. Yurii sleeps in warm clothes and walks around in felt boots. “The Pass of Caradhras” was one of the most demanding sequences ever filmed for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Shot on the real winter slopes of New Zealand's Southern Alps, the conditions were brutally cold the cast’s shivering wasn’t acting, and every breath you see on screen is 100% real.The Fellowship had to repeat long uphill walks in deep snow to maintain consistent formation. Viggo Mortensen insisted on carrying a real sword throughout the shoot, feeling the full weight and freezing temperature exactly as Aragorn would.Peter Jackson avoided artificial fog and breath effects, preserving the raw, physical struggle the crunching footsteps and sense of resistance in the snow were captured directly on location. ❄️

India is going to become a global hub for Climate Adaptation. What China did for renewables is what India can do for engineered Carbon Removal. By bringing together agriculture and deep tech. We are an agrarian country. We produce around 750 million tonnes of agricultural waste every year. Most of it gets burned, and that smoke is one of the biggest reasons the air turns toxic every winter. (Just wait for the monsoons to pass and Delhi will remind you of this in just two months) Biochar brings together chemistry, economics, and agricultural innovation. It can become a significant adaptation technique to this crisis. But what is biochar, really? And why does an agrarian India need it more than anyone? We built an interactive microsite that walks through all of it: the problem, the science, and our work on the ground. This is our ode to the promise of Indian agriculture, its crops and farmers. Another historic Canadian mill is dying. Howe Sound Pulp & Paper. Port Mellon. Opened in 1909. First paper made on that site 117 years ago. Last day is October 19. 400 jobs gone. Another thousand around it on the Sunshine Coast. The local mayor says that’s about 15% of the workforce. A tugboat captain who’s been there 22 years said it out loud: no more pulp after 117 years. Next to somebody dying, worst news he’s ever had. Domtar calls it “indefinite idling.” $500 million poured in since 2010. 380,000 tonnes of pulp off the market. Same company already killed Crofton last winter. B.C. forestry has lost about 15,000 jobs since 2022. More than 20 mills gone since 2023. Where’s the national press? Ottawa will do a week of tariff theatre. This town gets a press release and a last shift. That mill didn’t fail because the guys on the floor quit. Picked up golf clubs late April. Shot an 86 my 1st round, I then told myself to hit the pedal and go for the moon. I turned golf into a 24 hour job/career, then I broke par 2 weeks after my 1st round. My goal going forward is to be the 1st person to pick up golf clubs after the age of 25 and win an event on the PGA TOUR. The odds are essentially 0 and I’m aware of that, however I have a deep deep desire to defy the odds. Obviously majority of people will hate but I want to build a supportive community of golfers from all skill levels and walks of life. We’ve got a camera man secured for the YouTube launch, also Nick Jindal and I are going to be starting up a podcast sometime this winter themed around simplifying golf and the learning curve for beginners. For those who will follow and tune in we very much appreciate it. Cheers to the lifelong journey.⛳️ Par 3. Par 4. New driver is getting shorter shaft and grip so I just have the 5 hybrid for now.
