Interestingly the stick moved backward as the F-14 went down the cat as you can see by the movement of the stabilators.

@RSE_VB can answer the pilot movement on the stick during launch.

During the stroke, you keep your left hand on the throttles to make sure they don't roll back, and you place your right hand a few inches aft of the stick. The stick will program aft as the stabs catch the wind. Right around the end of the stroke when the wheels thump off the deck, you gently grab the stick and set a 10⁰ fly away attitude, then a quick left or right 10⁰ clearing turn.

Yep exactly. Usually jumped off the cat. I was only a F-14D guy so usually had plenty of power. Only times that wasn’t true was max weight cats. 76k the jet settled off the cat and after the first one was not comfortable. afterburner was a good idea and what I did after that.

@F111Driver Very true. I only had a max weigh cat when we dropped two GBU-10s on some shit in the desert. We were pretty close to 76K for the night shot. Quite a kick in the ass and I think it compressed my eyeballs to the whole stroke was pretty blurr

@F111Driver We had four GBU-31s, destined for Saddam. They light loaded to fuel to not exceed max cat.
