Amy Poehler: You’ve been dealing with that, and you’ve been looking for all different ways in which to feel and find support. And I think I would, on behalf of all the people who feel like they know you and the people who do know you, ask: how are you feeling today? Aubrey Plaza: Um, I’m… I mean, right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you. Amy Poehler: Mhm. Aubrey Plaza: Um, I feel… overall, I’m here, and I’m functioning, and I feel, you know, like I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. Amy Poehler: Mhm. Aubrey Plaza: I think, like, I’m okay, but, you know, it’s like a daily struggle, obviously. This is like a really dumb analogy, but… and it was kind of a joke at some point, but like, I actually mean it. Did you see that movie, The Gorge? Amy Poehler: No. Aubrey Plaza: Okay. Amy Poehler: Horror movie? Aubrey Plaza: It’s like a sci-fi alien movie or something. Amy Poehler: Okay, okay, okay. Aubrey Plaza: With, like, Miles… Amy Poehler: Teller? Aubrey Plaza: Teller. And, um… but it’s like, in the movie, there’s like a cliff on one side, and then there’s like a cliff on the other side, and then there’s this, like, gorge in between, and it’s like filled with all these, like, monster people that are trying to get them. And, like, I swear when I watched it, I was like, “That feels like what my grief is like,” or what grief could be like, where it’s like, at all times, there’s like a giant ocean of just awfulness that’s, like, right there, and I can, like, see it. Amy Poehler: Mhm. Aubrey Plaza: And, like, sometimes I just want to, like, dive into it and just be in it. And then sometimes I just look at it. And then sometimes I try to get away from it… Amy Poehler: Mhm. Aubrey Plaza: …but it’s always there. It’s just always there, and the monster people are trying to get me, like Miles Teller. Amy Poehler: Yeah. And… and, uh, Anya… Aubrey Plaza: And Anya Taylor-Joy. Amy Poehler: Yeah.

Aubrey Plaza says NYU let her move out of her dorm early after it became infested with mice. Aubrey Plaza: I go to New York, my parents drop me off on Third Avenue and 11th Street. Amy Poehler: Oh my God, I used to live around there, near Webster Hall. Aubrey Plaza: Yeah, I lived in the Third North dorms. Then I ended up moving out earlier than you’re technically allowed to because there was a mice issue. Amy Poehler: Ooh. Amy Poehler: There were too many mice? They were like, “You have to leave”? The mice took over? Aubrey Plaza: The mice took over to the point where, I’ll never forget, I was on the top bunk. Amy Poehler: No. Aubrey Plaza: I was being really quiet because I was reading a book or something, and nobody else was in the room. Amy Poehler: You were as quiet as a mouse. Aubrey Plaza: I was as quiet as a mouse. I was just reading for maybe 20 minutes, and all of a sudden… Amy Poehler: Mm-hmm. Aubrey Plaza: There was a Thanksgiving Day parade of mice. They were like having trumpets, going, “Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo!” They were all parading back and forth, like selling things. Amy Poehler: Oh my God. Aubrey Plaza: It was like a flea market. They came out and it was insane. I was like, “Ah!” Amy Poehler: On your floor? Aubrey Plaza: On the ground, like in our clothes. It wasn’t even a messy room. They were just everywhere, like they were wearing my clothes, running around, dancing. Amy Poehler: They were like those Richard Scarry books. Remember those? They were like building things and driving little cars. Aubrey Plaza: Yeah, yeah! Little pickle car, yeah! Amy Poehler: Yes. Aubrey Plaza: It was insane.
