Over 638,000 people are experiencing catastrophic hunger (IPC5/ famine)—the highest number globally. UN’s World Food Programme warns that Sudan’s hunger crisis is deepening. The details: ➤ Millions are at risk of being cut off from aid as the rainy season approaches, and as armed groups continue blocking convoys and delaying the pre-positioning of supplies in key locations before roads become impassable. ➤ Famine has been confirmed in 10 locations: 8 in North Darfur (including Zamzam Camp) and 2 in the Western Nuba Mountains ➤ Another 17 areas are at risk, including parts of North, South, and East Darfur, the Nuba Mountains, Khartoum, and Gezira ➤ In the worst-hit areas, one in three children is acutely malnourished, exceeding famine thresholds ➤ WFP is reaching over 3 million people monthly but aims to scale up to 7 million by mid-year ➤ WFP says $650 million is urgently needed to sustain operations in Sudan through the next six months.
