Assembly Minority Leader James Gallagher (R-East Nicolaus) and California Assembly Republicans argued the situation in Los Angeles "is a direct result" of California's sanctuary policies limiting interaction between local law enforcement and federal immigration enforcement. "It's propospertrous. It's ridiculous," said Gallagher. "So our locals cannot cooperate with ICE and our federal authorities. So what are they left to do? They have to go into these communities and do their jobs to enforce immigration law. And what are they met with when they come to do their job to enforce federal law? They are met with violent protestors -- many people who are throwing bricks, starting fires in the streets," he added. "These are criminals, these are criminal actions and it needs to be called out. Look, the bottom line is this: There needs to be law and order. Governor Newsom has continued to allow chaos to ensue. He does not have it under control," Gallagher continued. "We need to allow our federal law enforcement officers to do their jobs and we need to step out and take criminals out who are trying to impede them and committing crimes against law enforcement officers."

We have seen a coordinated campaign of violence by dangerous criminals—whether illegal aliens or U.S. citizens—using their vehicles as weapons to attack law enforcement. The facts of what happened in Minneapolis on Jan 7 matter: at 10:25 AM CT the individual in question was using her vehicle to block-in law enforcement officers and obstruct lawful operations—a felony. Throughout the course of the morning, the individual and her partner had been stalking, harassing and impeding law enforcement. ICE law enforcement approached the individual in question and gave repeated lawful commands to stop obstructing operations and then ordered her out of her vehicle for arrest. She refused to comply. She then proceeded to weaponize her vehicle, a deadly weapon, and hit a federal law enforcement officer. The ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement, and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots. Peaceful protest is a sacred First Amendment right. This was not that. If you obstruct law enforcement operations, ignore lawful commands, and use a deadly weapon to kill or cause bodily harm to a federal law enforcement office there are dangerous, and in this case deadly, consequences. This was entirely preventable.

Today, as assaults against ICE are up 1,300% and death threats up 8,000%, I called on my colleagues to support my Halo Act to protect our federal law enforcement officers from harassment, obstruction and violence. Law enforcement should be able to do their jobs without being targets—these attacks MUST END.

This is what local law enforcement is allowing to happen in Minnesota. Instead of working with federal law enforcement, they’re standing aside while anarchists attack federal agents and destroy property. Bondi: Whether it's a public official, whether it's a law enforcement officer, no one is above the law in this state or in this country. People will be held accountable. Street fights and public violence have become a normal sight across New York City under Kathy Hochul. It’s not normal, and families should not be forced to live with it. Kathy Hochul and Zohran Mamdani put offenders ahead of victims while law enforcement is stretched thin. Businesses will not invest where workers and customers feel unsafe. Without public safety, there can be no real growth, jobs, or opportunity. In Nassau County, I hired more than 600 law enforcement officers and made Nassau the safest county in America. When I am Governor, I will restore law and order, protect residents, and make New York a place where families and businesses can thrive.
