Macron told Trump that both the U.S. and France should stand on the right side of history, supporting Ukraine, and warned that any peace deal lacking long-term guarantees might fail. He labeled Russia as the aggressor in the war. Both leaders also clashed over Europe’s financial contribution to Ukraine’s defense. Trump, however, reiterated that the U.S. had been doing most of the heavy lifting, accusing Europe of not contributing enough.
