With tariffs, we run into the same unsolvable problem that we have with The Federal Reserve. The Fed doesn't know what interest rates should be. It's all arbitrary. In the same way, the president doesn't know what the price of cars, or lumber, or any other product should be.... show more

Tariffs are a necessary counterpunch to decades of globalist policies that let China loot American industry. The real issue? Bloated agencies and career bureaucrats who’ve spent years rubber-stamping bad trade deals. Past administrations let foreign adversaries exploit our markets while wasting trillions on foreign aid and endless wars. The solution isn’t less economic defense—it’s slashing the bureaucratic fat that enables cronyism. America First means prioritizing smart spending: secure borders, domestic innovation, and zero tolerance for D.C.’s addiction to foreign handouts. Cut the empire, not the tools that protect American workers.

Dive into the critical issues shaping economic policy, from President-elect Trump’s sweeping tariff proposals to the challenges Texas faces under rising government spending. Now is the time for bold reforms to protect taxpayers and ensure economic freedom thrives.

We know exactly what they should be because the tariffs are reciprocal and we know what other countries are charging us. If the other countries want a zero rate; they know exactly how to get it.

Your argument isn't wrong, it's just not applicable for the current moment. Will it raise prices? Probably. Is that okay if America is able to re-establish a middle class? I don't see how doing that is possible when their jobs are constantly overseas. As Thomas Sowell said there are no solutions, just trade-offs. Whether it works or not is a different story. But the plan right now isn't "let's keep cheap products". There's a higher priority at the moment.

You're losing me, Dr Paul And, respectfully, I have to say this is a very amateurish take from you. Sure, in a utopia there would be no tariffs. But we don't live in a perfect world, and we can use tariffs to change the behavior of trade partners who tariff us. I can go on...

Canada subsidizes their lumber industry in order to make it impossible for US lumber to compete. They control the price of their milk & dairy products and prohibit countries like the USA & New Zealand from exporting such products into their country. Canada is not the victim.

Nope. Tariffs is why I love Trump. US had high tariffs for over 100 years.

We both know Trumps goal isnt tariffs. Its to pressure other countries into lower tariffs

Ron, so we should let countries tariff us to death so that US manufacturers can’t compete overseas. Also your premise is incorrect. The president is doing reciprocal tariffs. All he’s doing is leveling the playing field.

Ron diggity Paul, free trade economics is a myth that has never happened. Yes in a perfect world we would all trade freely, slave labor wouldn’t undercut the value of goods, and other countries wouldn’t protect and subsidize sectors of their economies. But that is not the real world, so we fight back.

End the Fed!
