With the latest Apple Intelligence / Siri delays, I’ve been thinking about my October interview with Apple’s Craig Federighi. As he put it, it’s a “many-year—even decades-long” effort to enhance Apple Intelligence and improve Siri. The problem for Apple, as my second question gets at, they’ve been marketing it NOW.

Alas the thing they put out is ironically “sort of a mess” - I do hope they get it right, but the Apple intelligence launch has been botched and if they don’t quickly recover, it will probably be in the same class as the Apple Maps fumble

@SnoopDogg and @PatrickMahomes told me the iPhone 16 Pro Max was literally built for Apple intelligence. No mentions of years or decades in the ads. I don’t have a lot of money. This was a huge purchase for me. Gut punch.

Agreed. I was very bullish about Apple Intelligence (AI) and the new devices, and was pitching it hard as the next big thing. And look where we are now, looking foolish. Remember when Apple launched Apple Maps and it failed (although not as big of a fail as AI), and Scott lost his job? When is Craig going to get the boot?

I agree that Apple Intelligence will continually undergo upgrades and improvements. However, the mistakes and delays are placing the company further behind in the AI sector. While the competition continues to advance, Apple is merely trying to catch up.

Apple WWDC just demo’d new Siri AI powered by Apple Intelligence (aka Gemini distillation). It’s supposed to be more conversational with on-screen visual intelligence and can integrate user context (photos, contacts, calendars). The WWDC 2024 version was pure vapourware but this looks more legit because Siri responses actually take a while to respond. After getting fined last time for false advertising, Apple can’t mess around with this Siri update.

I’ve spent the last few days testing the performance of Apple Vision Pro with M5 — here’s how it stacks up against the original. It’s 35% quicker when booting up, widgets appear almost instantaneously, Safari is noticeably more responsive, and creating Spatial Scenes also feels much faster. The most impressive, and most interesting difference, though, comes with Apple Intelligence features, especially the Writing Tools. It summarized a reeeally long Wikipedia article in half the time. It really makes me wonder if Apple has more AI capabilities up its sleeve that the M5 will eventually unlock.

USCIRF’s latest recommendations : Asking the US govt to sanction the RSS and even India’s intelligence agency RAW, while pushing to designate India as a “Country of Particular Concern.” Not surprising though. This is the same USCIRF that has long been accused of bias, with even calls in the US itself to dissolve the body for issuing politically motivated reports that deepen mistrust with strategic partners like India. In 2024, India’s MEA has already called it what it is, a biased organisation with a political agenda that publishes propaganda on India year after year. Now my question to USCIRF , more than 10 Hindus have been killed in Bangladesh for their religion, have you ever recommended anything about that ?
