The UCP's healthcare scheme is breaking that fundamental promise to Albertans and creating a system where money talks louder than medical need. The Alberta NDP will always fight for a strong public health-care system that works for everyone, regardless of what tax bracket you’re in. Albertans deserve care they can rely on, when and where they need it.

Today, World Health Organization (WHO) supported the medical evacuation of 47 patients and 129 companions from #Gaza, despite the ongoing challenges to humanitarian operations and access constraints. Patients travelled to: - Spain: 13 child and one adult patients - Türkiye: 2 adult patients - France: 4 child and one adult patients - Norway: 6 child and 2 adult patients - Jordan: 18 child patients We are grateful to all the governments and health workers for their support and specialised care for the critical patients from Gaza. Over 14,000 patients are still in need of urgent care. We urge more countries to step forward to accept patients for medical evacuations. Ceasefire!

It’s time to supercharge the amount of surgeries we do in Alberta - it’s time for patient based funding in health care. We spend billions on acute care services, and while we have seen some improvements - it's simply not enough. Today we are announcing a new funding model that will increase transparency and accountability and will ensure there are more surgeries happening for Albertans. Albertans will not need to pay out of pocket for medically required surgeries - but they will certainly have faster access to these critical procedures. Watch here 👇

It's remarkable that the Darzi Report into the NHS was done in 9 weeks and yet the review into social care is going to take 3 years. The govt can't achieve a shift from hospital to community without tackling social care and ensuring patients are discharged to the right places.

After two days of being denied entry into the Nasser Medical Complex in #Gaza, yesterday World Health Organization (WHO) and partners were allowed to go inside to assess the patients. As a result, lifesaving medical referral of 14 critical patients was facilitated. Two patients needed continuous manual ventilation throughout their journey. 9 patients are now receiving care in the European Gaza, International Medical Corps, UAE and Indonesia field hospitals, and 5 patients are in Al-Aqsa hospital. There are still more than 180 patients and 15 doctors and nurses inside Nasser. The hospital is still experiencing an acute shortage of food, basic medical supplies, and oxygen. There is no tap water and no electricity, except a backup generator maintaining some lifesaving machines. WHO, PRCS, UN Humanitarian and other partners need sustained and safe access to continue lifesaving referrals for all patients in need of urgent care.

This Dual Practice Model will increase the number of surgeries being done in Alberta, decrease wait times, and ensure that Albertans get the care they need in a timely manner. We stand by our Public Health Care Guarantee. No Albertan will need to pay out-of-pocket to see their family doctor or receive a medically necessary treatment.
