I lost 14 of my West Point classmates in war. Not one of them lived to see their 28th birthday. When they gave their last full measure of devotion, it wasn’t for Black Americans, White Americans, Hispanic Americans, or Asian Americans. It was for all Americans. Because in the crucible of battle, there are no hyphens, no divisions, only brothers and sisters bound by the flag on our shoulder and the country we swore to defend. We are Americans first. As Jamaicans, we know the importance of keeping our front yard clean and welcoming because it is the first thing people see. Our Kingston Harbour should be treated the same way. For too long, we have not given our harbour the care and attention it deserves. Yet it is one of the first places that welcomes visitors through our ports and airports, and it is a space that belongs to every Jamaican. Through the Kingston Harbour Walk Project, we are building a future where our front yard truly reflects the best of who we are. Your Government is working for you!
