Without beating, punishment and embarrassment, how can Nigerian children perform well in primary school?

In Primary School, if you didn't pay your school fees they will call you out of class into the field & ask you to kneel under the sun facing the fence. I always felt bad for those who suffered the humiliation. It was unnecessary.

Reward and punishment can be implemented without violence/aggression. They do good, you let them do their favorite thing. They misbehave, you take away some liberties

I need to work harder to get my family out of Nigeria.

In nigeria, teachers come from home already frustrated by bills. So the beating is mostly transfer of aggression.

In a system where the teacher is already frustrating with their life, bills and the incapability of their salaries to make end meets, then the pupil coming from frustrated homes too, it'll take us a serious and conscious thorough overhaul in the systems involved to get to this serenity.

For too long, Nigerians have internalised the colonial idea that "the African child" cannot be behaviourally managed without flogging or meanness and cruelty euphemistically called "being strict". Yet positive reinforcement works for everyone.
