I don’t have any problem with an artist getting to the top and then trying to burn the ladder, where I have a problem is when that same artist assume he has the monopoly of how SUBSTANCE can be defined. Because Migos sings about drugs, gang and gun doesn’t mean their songs are more SUBSTANTIVE than Justin Bieber’s ANYONE and it doesn’t make Bieber less of an artiste. Just because Burna boy sang monster you made doesn’t mean wizkid’s Essence is less SUBSTANTIVE than monster you made and it doesn’t make wizkid less of an artiste. Just because Cardi B rap doesn’t make Celine dion’s blues less SUBSTANTIVE and it sure doesn’t make Celine less of an artiste. Just because Burna Boy sang 20.10.20 doesn’t make Joeboy’s Alcohol less SUBSTANTIVE and it doesn’t make joeboy less of an artiste. It all depends on how we define SUBSTANCE and I for one know that Love is more SUBSTANTIAL than STRUGGLES, sometimes some people don’t wanna keep listening to songs that reminds them of the shit they are going through, they want an escape which they often get from good, spiritual, rhythmic and melodious songs.
