No, male chauvenism existed. Don't try to change history. Women couldn't vote, hold public office, be lawyers, doctors, pilots, etc., and were considered second class beings. Classical feminism came into being to correct this. Also, even women's traditional roles were considered necessary, but pertaining to an inferior class. We're not going to regress just to assuage your hurt feelings.
