Hmm. The way I got to be independent was my 1st job at 15, worked delivering mail in a big company, in a BBQ joint, as an au pair, as a boat girl at a resort, as a cocktail waitress; then I graduated college and got a real job, bought a small house. What a leech.

If you take taxpayer money, you are not independent. You are a ward of the State, beholden to them for your very survival.
