Why is the government responsible for your childcare ? I don’t understand this. If you don’t have the means then don’t have children. Everyone is so quick to ask for handouts but do they not realise it’s their own money anyway that pays for this !

Raising the retirement age for women has definitely had a knock-on effect. I personally know at least a dozen women who had told their sons / daughters that they would provide childcare for their little ones and now can't because they have to continue working #waspi

So many judgemental people in the comments 😒. She may have used contraception, but it isn’t 100% effective, or perhaps her financial circumstances changed, we don’t know & it shouldn’t matter. People are angry at women but not the fact childcare costs are cripplingly expensive

I had three children one in the early 80s, late 80 s, and 2000, I did part time jobs between husbands work until they went to school. Only the last one had a day at nursery subsidised. Stay at home with your children it’s the most important time for them.

@Frusie Childcare costs are ridiculously high compared to average women’s wages. Any sensible government would fund childcare places properly. No wonder there are huge gaps in the labour market, hundreds of thousands of young women can’t affford to work. Plus Brexit of course

In my home state of Pennsylvania, the system is so broken that childcare workers would have to spend nearly half their annual salary to get care for their own kids. If Republicans were serious about affordability, they should consider the Child Care for Working Families Act.

Gov. Abigail Spanberger: The idea that you are paying more than a mortgage to have your children in quality childcare is an issue that impacts all of us. It is not sustainable and frankly it's not acceptable. What I'm signing today is a response to the reality that we face as a Commonwealth. We're creating the Employee Child Care Assistance Program, a new tool that incentivizes employers to help their employees pay for childcare with the state matching those contributions. This is one of the ways that we can make childcare more affordable without putting the entire burden on families or on the government alone.

Albanese is so cringeworthy. The best start in life is to have a parent in your life, not sitting in a childcare centre for at least three days a week with a strange brainwashing them with the woke mind virus. Why the major parties continue to fund childcare centres rather than give childcare support directly to parents is beyond me. People First is the only party lobbying to pay parents directly for childcare, rather than directly to the childcare centre which just increases fees with the increase in the subsidy. Furthermore, the lack of means testing is out of control. Why should a family earning $530,000 get assistance when a stay at home parent who is active in the school and community gets nothing. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• “In one of Anthony Albanese’s final major speeches of the year, the prime minister will announce his plans, if re-elected, to give families earning up to $530,000 a year access to the childcare subsidy for three days a week.
