Women’s Rights Network launches its Red Flag Campaign this week to highlight the dangers of mixed-sex leisure centre changing rooms for women and children. Nearly 90% of sexual crimes in leisure centre changing rooms are committed in mixed-sex facilities. 1/6

There are NO single-sex changing facilities in ONE-THIRD of local authority swimming pools in the UK providing easy hunting grounds for predatory males seeking access to women and children in a state of undress. 2/6

We know mixed-sex changing facilities are high-risk. In a 2018 FOI investigation there were 134 complaints of sexual misconduct in sports centres and swimming pools in the UK, 120 (nearly 90%) occurred in mixed facilities. 3/6

Earlier this year Swim England called an emergency safeguarding meeting after a DOUBLING of incidents of voyeurism and mobile phone photos of swimmers getting changed at swim competitions, in mixed-sex changing rooms. 4/6

The Sports Councils (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland) recommend mixed-sex changing villages as a ‘cost-effective’ solution for swim changing without any thought to SAFEGUARDING. 5/6

We call on sports and leisure providers to make SAFEGUARDING the No.1 priority when building and refurbishing leisure facilities. The safest changing room is a single-sex changing room. Read about the WRN Red Flag Campaign here: 6/6

It defies belief that people exist who don’t know males will perv on females given the opportunity.

Brilliant. The old council run local leisure centre had remote & large mixed sex changing area - staff not often around there. My sister complained to staff on 2 occasions about a man in open shared shower area who inappropriately had his hands down his trunks. Staff unconcerned

I can't believe inclusion policies got us here.

We need a safety rating for every venue equivalent to these signs. Warnings to the public. Venues scored based on their policies for protecting women/girls, compliance with legislation, instances of assault, cubicle safety etc.
