Not the case. It doesn't have to be barbaric and this treatment is unacceptable, but sheep have to be shorn or they can die. I have pet sheep and they are shorn every year with no ill effects at all. If you do it properly it is not cruel.

Instead of spraying an anti-static agent (chemical) on the wool which is done commonly in the wool industry, we have an anti-static bar that creates an ionized field of positive and negative ions, which in effect neutralize the static charge when the wool passes over it. It is also grounded 8 feet deep in the earth.

Has anyone checked on PETA lately? They are now advocating to HARM animals. The organization is now advocating against using wool for fiber, but sheep NEED to be shorn. Sheering is just like getting a haircut and if we didn’t use the wool, it would go in the trash regardless. This propaganda comes as people move towards natural fibers - a move that is hurting the polyester industry. So who is really paying PETA?
