The SR 71 could takeoff with a full tank of gas. It was called a rocket ride. But to do so they needed to do a yo-yo. The last official Air Force flight was in 1990 .SR 71s were reinstated briefly in 1996. The Air Force generals were jealous of the SR 71 they wanted the money for their own special projects. That’s why it was retired. The U2 is still flying the SR 71 should be also.

He ordered the destruction of all the tooling for the A-12 SR-71 and YF-12. He did not want the A-12 to fly over Vietnam for fear of upsetting the Chinese. Secrets of the Skunk Works. I'll be 71 this week. Now, I'm not going to do one of those 71 lessons for 71 years posts. But I do have one piece of advice: Get rid of limiting beliefs like "I'm too old" or "it's too late". You're not too old to get lean, fit and strong. Here's some inspiration:

Pulled this off my feed saying it demonstrated the SR-71 leaking fuel just before an evening flight. First time seeing a video of that, if true. And before BillyBob complains that "iTs Ai" you should know I ran it through a denoise/ sharpener to try and resurrect pixels.😎

SR-71: THE PLANE THAT TURNED EARTH INTO A BLUR The SR-71 Blackbird couldn’t do a U-turn in Ohio - its turning radius was literally bigger than the state. On its final flex, it flew from LA to DC in 1 hour and 5 minutes just to break its own record before retirement. Flying at 84,000 feet, pilots needed space suits and couldn’t even use landmarks - because when you're that fast, the Rockies go from “ahead” to “behind” in seconds. And no, you can’t commercialize it - unless you're cool with passengers blacking out and forgetting where the planet is. Source: AcquiredFM

On the ground, fuel tanks weren’t fully sealed yet… so fuel leaked. 🔥 Once airborne: • The titanium structure heated up • Panels expanded • Gaps sealed perfectly • Fuel leaks stopped 💡 It only became fully fuel-tight at Mach 3.
