A pregame celebration at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, nearly turned into a serious aviation safety incident on November 2, 2026. During the Seattle Seahawks vs. Chicago Bears Monday Night Football game, four U.S. Army UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters conducted a military flyover accompanying the American national anthem. However, as the final helicopter was passing over the stadium, pyrotechnic effects discharged from the stadium's video-screen area. 🎥 WHAT HAPPENED? Videos appear to show flames and pyrotechnic effects erupting from the stadium structure directly beneath or very close to the departing helicopter. Some initial video angles created the impression that the pyrotechnics struck the aircraft. However, additional footage reportedly showed that the effects narrowly missed the helicopter. AIRCRAFT DETAILS Aircraft type: Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk. Number of helicopters: Four. Military unit: 2-158th Assault Helicopter Battalion. Formation: 16th Combat Aviation Brigade. Mission: Ceremonial military flyover. Location: Lumen Field, Seattle, Washington. AVIATION SAFETY CONCERNS The incident raises important questions about coordination between stadium pyrotechnic operators and military flight crews. WHY THIS MATTERS Helicopters operating at low altitude during ceremonial flyovers have limited room to manoeuvre compared with aircraft at normal cruising altitudes. An unexpected pyrotechnic discharge near a helicopter could potentially expose the aircraft to heat, debris, smoke or direct physical contact.
