The auto sector was a gift to Canada meant to create a manufacturing base. In exchange the USA expected a solid partner and ally. America no longer sees Canada as keeping to the agreement.

Looking at American news they're bragging about trillions in investment, in just the last two months, with everything from heavy industry like steel to chip manufacturing to electronics to the LNG that we said there was no business case for just two years ago. We've likely already lost this trade war before we even started fighting, saddled with a government crippled by a prorogued parliament, a government that is using this crisis for political purposes instead of fighting it, and messaging to the business community that emissions caps and industrial carbon taxes are going to keep Canada a hostile place to invest... And we're looking to reward the people that put us in this position. Elbows up, right?

It’s really not going to discourage US/Foreign automakers in Canada. 25% tariffs with the weak Canadian dollar won’t hit their bottom line too hard. The tariffs would need to be over 50% to make it break even & over 50% now you’ll see the auto makers looking for 🇺🇸 alternatives

The government has been supporting the auto sector in Ontario for decades, the sector always threatens to move, then the government bails them out, and repeat. Now with the tariffs, it may be the final nail in the coffin for the Canadian auto industry.

Doug ford wont threaten that again. He literally tanked the CAD by 1% in an hour and immediately walked that back. He wont dare look that dumb again

You really want to put the politicos in there place? Don't buy ANYTHING you don't NEED until the shit ends. Watch how fast all the B.S. goes away. Lived through and lost my high paying job in the original NAFTA that gutted manufacturing to the core. So, yes, not nearly as bad. 😉
