Do MAGA folks understand the massive irony that this incredible explanation of the power of our republic comes from arguably one of the most conservative justices on the history of the Court. Can’t make this up.

@BaddCompani So Scalia is saying Republican Congress-Do your job which you swore an oath to. Not keep your job because you’re afraid of the dictator in charge.

GOD I miss that reasonableness, understanding, love and respect for our country and constitution by our US 🇺🇸 government……

@BaddCompani Not much of a Scalia supporter, but boy, he nailed 2 or 3 years of grade school and high school civics in less than 6 minutes.

@Gitchimama TY, @ChristopherHale, for resurfacing this 🙏🏻 Justice Antonin Scalia on the US Bill of Rights, Separation of Powers, decentralization of authority, & the fragility of our Democratic Republic. @SarahLongwell25 @AWeissmann_ , as you say "Words for our times, times for these words."

This is why the GOP has to be voted out in both houses. They are far too subservient to Trump to prevent power from being concentrated in the WH.

Brilliant summary. And yet he brought us Citizens United, which turned our electoral process into a public auction, and has made a mockery of the entire system, the legislative branch in particular.

The issue we liberals have with people like Scalia is “admiring the problem”. Wow, look at all this gridlock we created! Isn’t that great! So interesting in the abstract to conservatives.

@BaddCompani Ya, but a dominant two party system doesn't work very well in a true democracies. USA should have at least five.

Dems dismanted some of the gridlock mechanicms the founding fathers placed when they were in charge and cried foul when Republicans turned the tables on them when they were the ones playing foul in the first place. 🤣

Never forget this POS Justice Scalia gave us Citizen United which led to a complete breakdown in our government.

Nice speech but freedom does not come from governments anywhere, it is up to the people, you! Grid lock should be a protection but it has become the a tool to pass pork in the bills presented, I'll vote for it if you give this & that. Term & age limits may help fix it a bit.

Australia does bicameralism better than America and would be a good template for reform which retains a powerful and coequal Senate

Yes! Lets take Finland as an exampel. Before 2000 the exeutive branch had alot of power and could bully the legaslative branch. Nowadays the legaslative branch has all the power, the judiciary is a part of the legaslative branch (stora utskottet). So yea the American system FTW.

Back when people thought Republicans were crazy. Oh man, would most Americans cheer. The people we have in charge now are the weakest minded to have ever held office.

This really gets to the crux of why I am now anti Trump.... but also anti Obama... he also damaged separation of powers when he forced through Obamacare without any opposing party support. That was the start of it all.
