Would also love to hear his thought process here: He reads this 1-Drift, 2-Corner, 3-Flat. He quickly is off the drift with the sinking LB, good. The corner route is as open as you'll get in the NFL and he sees it, but throws the flat. Can't be missing...

He is likely processing the CBs body language (hips turned and running up field) which tells him throw the flat. NFL DBs can cover an insane amount of ground. Windows that might look wide open are often very small or even closed. The windows get even smaller with a 5’7 WR

You make a good point. I’ve always been taught to be hard on QBs expectations wise. I would expect my guy to rip this whole shot with the amount of space in between the flat defender (even with him getting depth) and the S. It not being his first read probably doesn’t help but🤷‍♂️

Do you think he lacks confidence in his ability to layer that over the defense? His straight-line velocity is good and he can obviously throw bombs, but I feel like the intermediate touch isn't there, and he shies away from MOF as a result even when it's open like this

Looks like it was 2nd and 10. Deep in his own territory. Five yard gain. 3rd and manageable. If this is the bad play, I’ll take it.
