Used to all the time on the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. Except, once you get the ring you toss it and try to toss it in a clown mouth and if you do a bell goes off.

That’s the carousel at Knobels and it’s not a game. There is no prize at the ended. Then the ride ends they open a cage where you try and throw your rings in the lions mouth

I read about this in Catcher in the Rye 25+ years ago and (despite being on several carousels over the years) this is the first time in my life that the description in the book makes sense.

I wouldn’t call it high speed. You also toss the ring into a box as you go around. Whoever gets the brass ring rides again for free.
