I found a video showing ICE in Chicago back in 2016 under Barack Obama , even in Broadview, Illinois , the same place people are now protesting, blocking, and spitting on ICE officers for doing their jobs. Back then? No mass protests. No lawlessness. No outrage. CNN even did a ride-along with ICE and praised them for their work. Let that sink in. But now, after Biden allowed millions to pour into this country, and President Trump moves to enforce the law and remove people who are here illegally, suddenly ICE is “evil,” FAKE NEWS is working overtime. Meanwhile, in reality, this is what the ICE facility in Portland goes through almost every night. I met with faith leaders from across Utah who shared with me concerns from their congregations. People’s fears of ICE are keeping them from their places worship. I heard this right as the news broke about ICE crackdowns in Southern Utah. ICE ruthlessly targets nonviolent people working and raising families, only to be swept up and taken away from their homes. I’m grateful for the faith leaders who shared their stories about how federal policies are harming their communities. If elected, I’ll work to end the senseless and cruel ICE arrests. I’ll work to fix our broken immigration system so people can immigrate legally and focus law enforcement on those who are actually dangerous to public safety.
