If pliers are not enough for a chain that small it's too tight It will either snap or will eat the gears during operation

If the chain is too tight, it will wear the teeth on the gears into sharp points.

put it in backwards though ... see that link comes with a locking piece .... made it that much more difficult to finish as well as take apart if needed
