#Bearcats ‘26 CF Jamir Johnson 18U National Shows off his gifts to launch quickly in tight space & adjustability (front arm shrink, steepen top hand) to create room for barrel as he sends this low & in 87.6 mph FB 400+ ft to dead center w/ flick of wrists. Hands setup close to hitting zone and barrel pre set near launch lends him early readiness vs velo. Add in the short+efficient path & plus twitch, this is a player who isn’t going to be beat by velo even when quick pitched. 3B Kevin Bazzell (Texas Tech Baseball) is sneaky one of the best pure hitters in this year's Draft class. In his first full collegiate season, he slashed .348/.453/.572 with 24 2B, 10 HR, 62 RBI, and more BB (45) than K (32). Tied the program record for most doubles in a season and was named First Team All-Big 12. Extremely simple setup in the box with a minimal stride and slight barrel tip. No wasted movement, takes a direct path to the baseball. Does an excellent job of consistently staying inside the ball. Level swing, barrel is in the hitting zone for a while. Hit over power profile, but the hit tool is a strong 60 with above average power to the pull side. Has an advanced approach along with plus bat-to-ball skills and plus feel for the barrel. Last season he worked a 92% overall IZ contact rate, including an absurd 96% IZ contact rate against FB. Converted catcher, can pick it over at 3B and continues to get better with time. Has a plus arm and has shown comfortability attacking the baseball. Hard worker who keeps his head down and is a darn good player. Potential top-2 round pick this July.

If you need a 1-game capsule of the skills & talent of Alex Freeland, last night was a pretty good one to bookmark. Freeland played 3rd and showed his athletic ability & arm strength on making a play on a slow roller he had to come in on. He then showed his competitive nature & toughness catching a throwdown from Hunter Feduccia to nail a runner trying to steal 3rd. As for the offensive side Freeland hit a double to the opposite field gap on a very aggressive swing in a + count, then shortened up later in the game with 2 strikes and shot one the other way for a 2-strike, 2-out, 2-RBI base hit. Freeland is hitting .333, OPS is .909. He leads the PCL in hits with 31 and also in doubles with 12. He's top 5 among qualified players in the PCL in RBIs (25), and then is top ten in BBs (14), and Stolen Bases (6). #dodgers

The difference in the way Drew threw in HS/college and what we saw in the videos from the Steelers rookie camp is extremely subtle (basically a slight adjustment w/ the front leg and zero change to his upper half or arm path/slot) and most wouldn’t be able to pick up on it. I disagree that he was early with his external rotation during college. The video below (from 2024) shows his typical approach over the past 7 years…staying loaded and coiled on the back leg until the front foot makes contact with the ground. The drill is designed to keep him loaded in his back glute, and maintain the discipline to not fire his hips early, until his front foot gets down. His front foot and hip slightly clear (while staying coiled in the core) to allow the hips to come through cleanly. That slight opening of the front hip, along with the slight closure-internal rotation-of the front shoulder is how hip-shoulder separation is created. Getting the hips to come through first (while the shoulders and arms stay back), then the torso, then the shoulders, is how hip-shoulder separation (power) is maximized. Learned that from Chris Hess and it’s been a fantastic tool.

OF Trevor Condon (Tennessee Baseball) was one of my favorite position players I saw in Jupiter. Collected 7 hits (1 XBH) and 4 RBIs across 5 games. Slightly undersized, but there's some impact (mainly to the pull side) packed into his frame. Wiry, athletic build at 5'11" and 175-lbs. Prototypical top-of-the-order table setter. Explosive and twitchy operation in the box with no-doubt plus bat speed. Feel for the barrel is there, high-level bat-to-ball skills. Controlled the zone well with polished swing decisions in my looks last week. Does tend to hit the ball on the ground, would like to see more line drives. Hit-over-power profile with some PS thump. Gets out of the box unbelievably quick, turned in 70-grade run times. Condon's tantalizing combination of speed and athleticism translates well to centerfield. He can really go and get it and has plenty of range, but if he can shore up his routes (take a more efficient, crisp path to the baseball) he has a chance to become an impact defender. The intangibles with Condon are a nice cherry on top. Advanced baseball sense; stole 2nd on a great dirt ball read, swiped 3rd on a well-executed shuffle lead. Incredibly high motor, plays with his hair on fire. Does not take a pitch off! Always involved, brings the juice! Like the Energizer bunny. Kind of a throwback player in that sense - it's clear he LOVES to play! Think along the lines of Sal Frelick/Slater de Brun (SDB better defender at this point with more of a physical, barrel-chested look). Top 2-3 round type for me this July.

OF Ethan Conrad (Wake Forest Baseball) has seen his Draft stock rise considerably over the last calendar year. Following a productive Freshman season and summer, Conrad had an outstanding Sophomore year to the tune of a .389/.467/.704 slash line with 18 2B, a nation-leading 13 3B, 9 HR, 52 RBIs and 17 SB. His hot hitting didn't stop there, though, as on the Cape this summer he was both an All-Star (ASG MVP) and All-League selection after hitting .385/.433/.486 with 5 2B, 2 HR, 19 RBIs, and 19 SB. Conrad has an athletic, big league frame at 6'3" and 200-lbs. Simple setup in the box in which he stands fairly upright—albeit slightly hunched over—with a medium-high handset and holds the bat flat over his back shoulder. Minimal load, leg lift leads into a small stride. Conrad takes a direct path to contact and his barrel accelerates through the zone. Hand speed is above-average. It's a very compact, repeatable and under control operation. He has plus bat-to-ball skills and is consistently on the barrel. Last spring he ran an overall IZ contact rate of 91%, including 90% against FB and 94% against both SL and CH. This summer was a similar story, as his overall IZ contact rate was also 91% (93% against FB/CH, 91% against SL). Conrad can get trigger happy with FB in the top and/or outer-1/3 and has the tendency to chase secondaries down, though it hasn't hindered his production to this point. Tightening up his swing decisions a bit will help. Would give his hit tool a 55. Conrad has shown the ability to spray line drives to all parts of the field and is capable of driving the baseball into either gap. While he uses the whole field, his highest quality of contact comes to the pull side—which is also where all of his HR power to this point has come. There's present impact, however, and this spring he posted a Max EV of 109.4 and this summer his Max EV was 105.4. If he's able to get the ball up in the air more, increased HR numbers should follow suit. Power is a 50 right now. Corner OF profile defensively where his speed and athleticism translate well. Good instincts, can go and get balls in the gap or down the line. Arm is average. Alluded to it, but Conrad is also a plus runner who has a knack for taking an extra base on a ball in the gap or down the line. Most importantly, he knows *how* to run which helps his speed play up on the bases where he's an effective base stealer and chaos-causer. Although it was cut short, he had a strong Sophomore season with a 4.30 ERA and 50 strikeouts in just 29.1 IP. Was on track to earn a Team USA invitation for the second time in as many years. The 6’2” southpaw attacks from a high-3/4 slot with a clean arm stroke. Easy, repeatable delivery with present arm speed. FB sits in the 92-95 (t96) mph range with tons of carry. At its best, and generates the most swing and miss, when located in the top-half of the zone. Grades out as a 60. Sharp, low-80s SL (51% miss rate in ‘23) is his go-to out pitch with plenty of teeth. Ferris State HC Tony Annese - Mesh (QB/Ball Carrier) & Motion Fundamentals QB Mesh Fundamentals - Regardless of play, the first thing the QB needs to do to make sure he has a good mesh is stab the ball back off his hip towards the ball carrier as far as he can. - His arms should be straightened with his eyes at the HOK. - The ball should move with the back through his track. - If the ball is pulled the decision must be made by the time the ball gets to the QB's front hip. Ball Carrier Mesh Fundamentals - The potential ball carrier is the one that is responsible for his track. He needs to make sure his is at the mesh point that the QB is creating. - He must maintain a pocket that is firm enough to secure the ball but loose enough that the QB can pull the ball if the read is a pull read. - Do not deviate from the track until you fully clear the mesh. - If you do not get the ball then track away from the HOK and make him chase you. Motion Fundamentals - All of our motions start up at FULL SPEED! It is incredibly important to make every motion at full speed so the QB has a consistent timing. - The QB is responsible for sending the motion back on every play except for the triple option. - This allows us to control each motion easier. - Every Jet motion should be timed as if the jet back was getting the ball regardless of play. - The motion back will change his depth based on play. - This allows us to use motion with a multitude of schemes. - The motion stops at different spots on different plays and each perimeter player must understand where he should stop for each play.

RHP Anthony Eyanson (LSU Baseball) is another college arm worth keeping close tabs on this season. After collecting 34 strikeouts across 29 IP as a Freshman, Eyanson last year pitched his way into a full-time starting role and worked a 3.07 ERA with 85 Ks to 24 BB in 82 IP. Last summer on the Cape, Eyanson allowed 2 ER and struck out 6 in as many innings before departing for Team USA. Eyanson has a prototypical pitcher's frame at 6'2" and 195-lbs with some present physicality in his lower-half. He has a simple and under control delivery, and attacks from a three-quarters arm slot. Whippy arm stroke, average arm speed. Eyanson does a nice job of consistently repeating his delivery. Will vary his tempo. Mechanically sound. Eyanson's FB sits in the low-90s, but was up to 97 this summer. Not a real bat-misser right now, but it has riding life in the top-half of the zone and will also flash some run/sink to the arm side at times. Consistently stays off the barrel of opposing hitters with it thanks to his advanced command of the offering. He supplements his FB with two distinct breaking balls. The first of which is a mid-to-upper-70s CB. Eyanson can both land it for strikes and get whiffs out of the zone with it. Will at times flash a big shape with true 12-to-6 action and some teeth. Raises his arm slot slightly when delivering it to get more on top of the baseball. Regularly flashes above-average. For me, Eyanson's best weapon is his low-to-mid-80s SL. RHP Anthony Eyanson (LSU Baseball) is another college arm worth keeping close tabs on this season. After collecting 34 strikeouts across 29 IP as a Freshman, Eyanson last year pitched his way into a full-time starting role and worked a 3.07 ERA with 85 Ks to 24 BB in 82 IP. Last summer on the Cape, Eyanson allowed 2 ER and struck out 6 in as many innings before departing for Team USA. Eyanson has a prototypical pitcher's frame at 6'2" and 195-lbs with some present physicality in his lower-half. He has a simple and under control delivery, and attacks from a three-quarters arm slot. Whippy arm stroke, average arm speed. Eyanson does a nice job of consistently repeating his delivery. Will vary his tempo. Mechanically sound. Eyanson's FB sits in the low-90s, but was up to 97 this summer. Not a real bat-misser right now, but it has riding life in the top-half of the zone and will also flash some run/sink to the arm side at times. Consistently stays off the barrel of opposing hitters with it thanks to his advanced command of the offering. He supplements his FB with two distinct breaking balls. The first of which is a mid-to-upper-70s CB. Eyanson can both land it for strikes and get whiffs out of the zone with it. Will at times flash a big shape with true 12-to-6 action and some teeth. Raises his arm slot slightly when delivering it to get more on top of the baseball. Regularly flashes above-average. For me, Eyanson's best weapon is his low-to-mid-80s SL.
