Wow, gpt-5.6-sol made me a android app that turns my phone into microphone for my eink tablet! There is something special from getting words on a page using my voice and editing it using a pen and paper-feel. sound on! ps: no harry potter reference in this one, sorry!... show more

I'm also playing with AI on eink lately. Feel like we need a community for eink enjoyers

yes!

C’mon, you could have put that in disappearing handwritten script

hahaha XD, and don't want to be known as a one trick poney :o

You've actually convinced me too. I have been writing pen on paper recently for the brain boost. It would be fantastic to get this sent to a model for interaction, saving, or to trigger other apps without using a traditional screen. I could see dynamic UI here too.

can you give a little hint on how you went about getting it to become a native android app? Did you copy and paste the code into android studio or, just i.ported the folder that Sol worked on into it? Or something totally different? thx.

i hosted a webpage on my laptop on the same network as my phone, visited the page with my phone, and from there i could download and .apk and install it. ( the models made the .apk and the local host webpage where i could download the app). it felt like a custom play store in a way.

oh Sol created the finished APK? neat. I'm sure it used some tools (maybe expo) for it. But in the end, only results matter. kewl. I'll try that, just for proofing the concept. It would be awesome though, to have Sol work inside Android Studio. Maybe even CUA can do it. 😊

Trying to predict what you’ll post on next is impossible and always inspiring 🔥

Nice! Even the font is there 💪

Would love if someone can try this on something like the viwoods ai paper. E ink is making a comeback lol

This is awesome @MaximeRivest! Something special about eink I agree, it doesn’t grab your attention just sits there ready for you to decide to engage with it I’ve been hacking a spatial PDF reader for a different eink tablet it’s called daylight

nice!! yes, I hope I can get my hand on a daylightco tablet soon! eink is starting to become a new passion for me

ReMarkable is the gateway drug haha!!

That erase moment though. Epic work sir!

Actually think of getting another RM2 just for the sake of doin exactly the kind of things. :D

I’ve been wanting this one since long time, may you share the repo? I made just basic GTD content sync through PDF’s until now…

i'll push to my github soon-ish that one was very hardbaked into working only on my phone and my remarkable, still with coding agent it may be the right launching pad for you own project :)

@MaximeRivest I have a scribe device - can this work for that ?

probably not, but i dont know this device, sorry :(!

Why is AI needed ?

keyboard and mouse have a direct, predetermined, effect on a computer. there is a logical deterministic path from the keyboard and mouse actions to the programs. with voice and sketches, that bridge does not exist. In the example above I used a local transcript models to transform my speech into text. that ai was necessary. another role for AI is the handle the minutia and the brittleness that are still sometimes required from working with computers, macros exists to automate, but they can be tedious themselves to create. AI makes it possible to delegate more and have less intermediate interactions with the computer, AI can be the intermediary and you can stay focused and in the flow. concentrated on what ever you are creating or attempting to understand while an AI can execute some command and bring you the result in a 'calm' 'complete' paper like experience.

This would be so great for meetings and lectures

that is really cool

doodlers are your enemy

Voice in, pen feel out is a really nice combo for eink devices

@grok what is this eink tablet? How do things work here?

@grok its a ReMarkable with developer mode on and custom app bypassing most of the ReMarkable software.

Very cool! What I was thinking for voice input is direction to the LLM -- like you chat with it while it draws you diagrams or annotates things on the screen.

This one I definitely need you to drop on GitHub!

will push soon-ish :)

Absolutely Do you feel the liberation from the ties of the keyboard? 🥰

Love this! Would you be willing to experiment with BOOX products? I went with their e-ink readers over Remarkable and Kindle due to their use of the Android ecosystem, and havent even started to consider augmenting e-ink interfaces

I would love to, seems like I need to try things on: supernote, daylightco, and boox. I am resisting no going to buy all three XD

this is cool af.. tempted to get one myself now 😅 loving what youre doing with this dude 👍

just note that I do it in the xovi / apploader space that requires turning on developer mode and using third app (i dont want you to be disappointed if you look for it in the native reMarkable experience).

thanks Maxime 👍

The "words on a page using my voice" part is the thing I keep coming back to in this space. Voice is the fastest way to get thought out, but it usually vanishes the second you stop talking. The magic isn't the eink or even the AI, it's that what you said becomes something you can hold and edit instead of something that evaporated. eink just makes it feel like it was always yours. The pen-and-paper feel is doing more work than people give it credit for.

What's that tablet?

its a ReMarkable with developer mode on and custom app bypassing most of the ReMarkable software.

Do you think so far, what’s possible here with remarkable like devices is different than from say iPads and other non e ink tablets?

it think its the same (but harder and worse). the only benefit of e ink tablets is that it does not draw as much power and is different (better?) on the eye and in the sun. which, to me, leeds to a more physical feel that makes all the difference. it took me a very very long time to accept to read/take note/think using computers and its screen. and i am not sure if i got better at it or simply forgot how worse it is.

I was trying to find where you mentioned this but what is the name of the tablet? Is it a remarkable? I have an XTeink v4 which I love but one with writing would be so rad. Thank you

yes its a ReMarkable with developer mode on and custom app bypassing most of the ReMarkable software.

⚡️🇮🇱BREAKING: The daughter of Israeli Settlement Minister Orit Strock has revealed that she was sexually assaulted by her parents as a child in a documented and horrifying manner. Her full testimony: "Hi, i wanted to share something after a long time that I'm carrying it with myself. My name is shoshana strook, I have suffered sexual assault as a children by both of my parents, the sexual assault was recorded, which means it was used for child porn. in recent time, some of my memories from the assault resurfaced, and I understood that it was probably a ritual assault, so I contacted someone on Facebook named Na'ama Goldberg, and I won't tell all the details but the thing that happened, is that I understood that she has access to all these pornographic videos, and she threatened me that these videos can be published online, and then it hit me that this is a much, much more organized crime. I was sexually assaulted as a child, but apparently I am currently under threats from larger criminal elements, I really don't believe in this world, I feel threatened, I filed a police complaint against my parents before I left Israel, now I have returned to Israel in panic because I realized that I am actually being threatened by criminal figures. I will ask the Israel Police to protect me both against these criminal figures and against my family. I would appreciate the public's help in spreading this to every possible source, and of course I will contact the police directly today. Of course this is very important, thank you all for the support, I really appreciate the help.”
