That one time David Deutsch spoke to Richard Feynman: “We had a wide-ranging conversation, mostly about quantum theory and computation, but we deviated a bit to talk about physics generally. And I said that physics seems to have slowed down, and he said, “There will be no more great physicists.” And I was like, “Oh, what makes you say that?” Because I wasn’t thinking like that at all, because I was lucky enough to be among several of them and learning from them. And he said, there will be no more of them. So I said, why? And he said, “Well, because of physics education.” He didn’t put it in exactly the way that I would today, but it was that it was very narrow, and everybody was taught to do the same thing. I don’t think he had any objection to this concept of being taught a thing or to have a curriculum, but he thought it was becoming narrower and narrower. And the reason it’s becoming narrower is because that’s the only way you can base it on exams. And if you want to have a world in which most people go to university, let’s say, then you need to have standards for going to university. And these standards have to be determined by exams, otherwise it’s unfair. And if they’re determined by exams, they have to be determined by a uniform curriculum. When I was in school, there was no national curriculum. Every school had its own curriculum. There were dozens of different examination boards that set exams, and each school could choose: we’ll have this board for physics, and we’ll have this board for history, according to what the teachers in the school thought was a good idea to force their pupils to learn. So that part of it wasn’t the way I would have it. But the state didn’t take a view, and most importantly, it didn’t take a uniform view that everybody in the country had to learn this thing. And that was the thing that Feynman was objecting to—that everybody in the country learning the same thing. And by the time they get to university and by the time they’ve done an undergraduate degree, they’ve learned to become proficient. I mean, those that pass through the sieve and eventually get to become physicists or something, they have all learned how to do the same thing in the same way. And that’s going to put a damper on doing things a different way, a new way. Of course, Feynman, in his life and in his research career, was constantly doing things in a new way, in ways that people didn’t approve of. And I think, well, I’m not a pessimist, so I don’t think there aren’t going to be any more great physicists. I’m expecting that there are, because I’m expecting that the Enlightenment will spread to educational theory as it has spread to many other aspects of life.”

🛑🇧🇫- Burkina Faso’s PM on how how our gold was being looted. This is what Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo was saying on national television about our artisanal gold: “Imagine, we were getting less than 500kg of gold. And last year (with SONASP), we almost got 10 tons. However, this year by the month of September alone, it was already 36 tons. In the past, Burkina Faso had no gold reserves at all. They were coming, they were the ones who go down in the mines, no Burkinabè was there. They were the ones who will come out and say, “Ah, this is what we got! And we only had to nod and accept it.” Once it leaves the mines, it goes directly to the airport where a plane ✈️ is waiting for it, and when it’s finally loaded, it takes off and that was it. Nothing stays in the country. Is this acceptable? This is unacceptable! But it’s over now! Even in the big mines they still have, we have our people there to control them, so that everything can be clear, so that if they say this is the amount of tons that we brought out, at least we are all witnesses of it.” - End of quote. I, Marcus or any Burkinabè who is well aware can attest to this. I was living in Kombissiri in the year 2010-2011, and frequently, I could hear the bikers escorting the gold in full speed like a presidential escort heading to Ouagadougou which is just at about 40km from Kombissiri. At first, I didn’t know it was gold being transported. Until one day, I asked the neighbors and the police and they told me it was gold going to the airport. I was like damn! People are looting our gold! I don’t remember the name of the mine they told me, but Kombissiri was the route they were following. So, this confirms what the PM is saying. But thank God for Capitaine Ibrahim TRAORÉ ! We have none of that shit anymore.

From Dan Lorenc on the malware attack that almost took down the entire internet last year: “There’s a popular compression library that’s used in almost every piece of software. And it had been maintained by one person in his spare time for the last 20 years. And then a couple years ago, somebody just decided to start helping him. They jumped in, fixed a bunch of bugs, and did a lot of great work. And then that first person got tired of working on it. So he handed the whole project over to this other person. It turned out that other person was just a pseudonym and was not a real person. And within six months of getting control of the project, they had put in a carefully orchestrated set of malware that was really hard to detect and no one noticed. And because it was so widely used, the exploit would've basically given that person remote access to any computer running that piece of software, which was basically everything connected to the Internet. But because it was open source and the code was transparent, some random engineer just happened to be running some benchmarks on a weekend. And he noticed that program was a little bit slower than it used to be, and that it was making a weird cryptographic operation to check something. And right before this thing got widely deployed across every device, he dug in, and discovered that there was a backdoor put in. This was the closest thing to a full-blown internet crisis that we’ve ever had. And they still have no idea who did it. It was just an anonymous email account. No one ever traced it back to an individual. And that's the long game. This person spent years just doing good work and earning the communities trust.”

This is one answer. 1/2 REPORTER: Mr. President, Tulsi Gabbard has submitted a criminal referral to the Department of Justice. From your perspective, who should the DOJ target as part of their investigation? What specific figures in the Obama administration? TRUMP: Well, based on what I read, and I read pretty much what you read, it would be President Obama, he started it, and Biden was there with him, and Comey was there, and Clapper the whole whole group was there. Brennan, they were all there, in a room. Right here, this was the room. This is much more beautiful than it was then, but that's okay. I have nice pictures up, they came out of the vaults, they were in there for 100 years, this is much more beautiful. We have the Declaration of Independence now in the room, which wasn't here. I guess people didn't feel too good about putting it here, but I do. But you know what, if you look at those papers, they have a stone cold, and it was President Obama. It wasn't lots of people all over the place, it was them too. But the leader of the gang was President Obama, Barack Hussein Obama, have you heard of him? And except for the fact that he gets shielded by the press for his entire life, that's the one they, look, he's guilty. It's not a question. You know, I like to say, let's give it time. It's there, he's guilty. This was treason. This was every word you can think of. They tried to steal the election. They tried to obfuscate the election. They did things that nobody's ever even imagined, even in other countries. You've seen some pretty rough countries. This man has seen some pretty rough countries, but you've never seen anything like that. And we have all of the documents. And from what Tulsi told me, she's got thousands of additional documents coming. So President Obama, it was his concept, his idea, but he also got it from crooked Hillary Clinton. Crooked is a $3 bill. Hillary Clinton and her group, the Democrats, spent $12 million to Christopher Steele to write up a report that was a total fake report. Took two years to figure that out, but it came out that it was a total fake report. It was made up fiction. And they used that. The one thing they weren't able to do was to, and probably the only thing I respect about the press in years is the press refused to write it before the election. They refused to put it in. The Steele report was a disaster. All lies, all fabrication, all admitted, and admitted fraud. She paid $12 million and the Democrats for that report to a wise guy named Christopher Steele. He wrote a phony report, and they wanted to get that report in before the election. And I'll tell you what, I talk about all the time the fake news, how bad it is. But in this case, they wouldn't do it. They saw it. They read it. And they said, "We don't believe it." And it was only after, substantially, like a month and a half after the election that it got printed, and it was a big wisp, it was just like a bang, nothing, because the election had ended. If that report had gotten published by the New York Times or somebody, and I respect the Times for maybe only this, because they're crooked as you can be. They're a terrible paper, a crooked, corrupt paper. But for this one moment, they said, "This is bullshit. We can't put this in." And neither could any other paper. Wall Street Journal's a lousy paper, very, very dishonest paper. As you see, I'm suing them for a lot of money, because they do things very badly. It's a really, it's got a nice name, but it's really, in my opinion, it's a terrible paper, and it can be corrupt. But just so you know, they didn't take the steel report. It was the dossier. Remember the famous dossier? I called it the fake news dossier. The news wouldn't publish it. And I'm amazed.
