Wow such a messed up move from Apple. Starting with Mac Sequoia, it is IMPOSSIBLE to run apps that are NOT downloaded through Apple's AppStore, unless you jump through hoops in the privacy settings. Nobody seems to be talking about it, please share so more people know about it.

Previously you could "right click" and run to bypass this, but with Sequoia, even this is blocked. The only way to run apps that don't go through Apple's AppStore is by going to the Privacy & Security settings, and EXPLICITLY allow it.

Yes it is technically possible to get around this as mentioned in the video above, but it's too much to ask to end-users. This is defacto censoring everything that doesn't go through Apple app store. Just like the iOS platform.

If you're a Pinokio user and happen to update your Mac OS to Sequoia, you will need to follow the instructions above, by allowing the app in the privacy&security settings. I'm planning to update the docs to include this info.

Also, yes, in the future I do plan on signing Pinokio binary with Apple/Microsoft developer license so you don't have to go through all this (no patch required, no windows defender issues,..). But it is important that this should not be the ONLY way to run programs.

Here's a related reddit thread, what's crazy is these people are furious but have no power over this

This effectively turns Mac into a closed proprietary platform with a gatekeeper like iOS. More people should know this is happening right in front of our eyes. Really hope Apple reverses this decision. This is just not right.

Even on Windows, even when Windows Defender blocks the app for "security" reasons, it still gives you a one-click workaround, despite being hidden. This should not be deliberately hidden so you have to go through many many steps just to "run anyway".

Apple is so quickly just becoming a caricature of itself, it bums me out because I used to be a big Mac guy. Unfortunately their new OS designs seem to be a lot more interested in having you consume content than create it.

The "safety" features in macos are just horrifying. I hate everything about it!

It does not make sense in any logical way that this is for safety. It was already completely hidden and the only way to run these non-appstore apps was by right clicking and selecting open. There is no reason to block even that option.

Whoopi Goldberg dismisses Pratt losing his house in the wildfires and says he needs to know what he's talking about and offer "solutions" before "passing judgment" on Karen Bass. She claims he doesn't "understand what people are going through": GOLDBERG: No, he's not the answer but here's the thing, nobody -- You know, they have bitched about these wildfires as long as I've lived in California, it's always been -- it's always been a problem. But what I don't like is if you don't have any solutions that have not been already tried or if you're throwing shade on people saying she diverted water from this place -I mean, you have to -- you have to have some idea of what needs to be done. A lot of people were affected by those wildfires, a lot of my friends, a lot of people you know lost everything. HOSTIN: Right. GOLDBERG: So this is not, you know, a ha, ha, let's do an A.I. video. This is real stuff. People -- this is people's lives. And so, before you're passing judgment, you need to be able to tell people what you have to offer, Spencer. [Applause] You know, and, you know, I don't know what qualifies as the right way to be a politician, but what I do know is they have to be the people who understand what people are going through. And if you don't understand what people are going through, in the way they're going through it, when you're talking about communities, whole communities that have been burned out, whole groups, legacies that are gone. It's more than just this. It's all these things. You got to be prepared for a lot more stuff than I think you -- it is a really hard job and in California particularly.
