I designed a logo for Jerusalem’s public transport system. At its core is a symbol that is almost 100 years old: the sign used for bus stops. It first appeared in the city in the 1930s and over time spread across the country. Eventually, this sign disappeared from the streets, replaced by standard yellow and blue route information signs. I felt it was important to bring back this simple and precise symbol, a sign that was directly associated with public transport for decades. I used it as the foundation for a new identity: not just a logo, but a visual language that can unify the entire transport system, buses, light rail, and future modes of transport. Sometimes simple forms work best for complex systems. Special thanks to the Jerusalem transport team for their trust in this project, and to Daniel Baev (Daniel Baev דניאל באייב) for his extensive archival research and contribution to the idea.

Normally, I will shake off the cold and relieve myself before ordering a cup of coffee and a moist cinnamon bun dripping with glaze and watch the fishermen troll for walleye along the river. So imagine my surprise earlier this week to find that the Renaissance Center is now completely closed to the public. Locked in perpetuity. The cafe is gone. The Burger King. The tables. The napkins. The salt shakers. General Motors has removed its name plate from the facade, and its rotating display of classic cars has been towed away. “Where you going?” barked a sleepy-eyed security guard. “It’s closed. Can’t you read the signs? Unless you’re going to the hotel or Joe Muer’s, but they’re not open yet.” “How about the Italian consulate?” I said somewhat hopefully. The remaining tenants in the Renaissance Center, besides the Marriott and three restaurants, are the Italian and Japanese diplomatic attachés. Apparently, no one told the Italians and the Japanese that the war was over. “Okay, but you can’t take no professional video,” he warned. We ignored him. The cultural impact of an icon abandoned in the middle of the night simply required documentation. Imagine walking up on the Empire State Building or the St. Louis Arch and being told to pound cement. It’s no secret that the building’s owner, General Motors, beat it out of its five towered headquarters on the Detroit River. With much fanfare, the 117-year-old automobile company announced last month that it had moved its world headquarters into a veritable broom closet of suites in Dan Gilbert’s half-finished, publicly financed Hudson’s Tower complex just a few blocks up on Woodward. GM has all but turned its back on the Motor City. The company has collected billions of dollars over the years from the state to keep its employees in Michigan. To smother the criticism, General Motors is keeping a skeleton crew of a few hundred employees downtown so the locals don’t feel disrespected. Executives with General Motors and Gilbert’s development team have convinced the public that they are going to transform the 5 million-square-foot riverfront property into condominiums, retail space and open parkland just as long as the public kicks in $350 million. Gilbert and GM are lobbying Lansing hard for the cash and prizes but a spokesman for Matt Hall, the speaker of the Michigan House who holds the dice in this game of Municipal Monopoly, was surprised to learn the public has been locked out of the building. “That’s the first we’re hearing of it,” the spokesman said. Representatives for General Motors did not immediately respond to questions. The Renaissance Center, financed with private money, took four years to build and opened in 1977. The public was always welcome to ride the 700-foot outdoor elevator. As a comparison, the Hudson two-tower complex—financed in part with public money—broke ground nine years ago. Even so, the main 49-story tower still lacks pipes and walls. The shorter block, where GM now rents four floors, is closed to the public. One of the most interesting political fights in Portland right now isn’t happening between conservatives and progressives. It’s happening inside Portland’s own political left. Today, about 75 Democratic Socialists of America and public union members protested outside the Moda Center during a Portland Metro Chamber event featuring business leaders, elected officials, and new Trail Blazers owner Tom Dundon. The protest was promoted and attended by city councilors Koyama Lane, Morillo & Green was simple: no public money for billionaires. But the issue is more complicated than a protest sign. Tom Dundon bought the Trail Blazers. He did not buy the Moda Center. The arena is owned by the City of Portland. And after more than 30 years, many of the building's major systems—from bathrooms and elevators to kitchens, technology, and other infrastructure—are due for significant upgrades. As a matter of fact, the facility is actually the worst in the NBA, a league where other cities have invested billions into their facilities and infrastructure over the last decade. As the protest raged outside, Dundon calmly told those on hand at the meeting that Portland poses a huge challenge due to its high tax rates, something he wouldn’t have to contend with in places such as Nashville or Austin. So, the question isn't simply whether taxpayers should subsidize a billionaire. It's whether Portland should invest in a city-owned asset to keep the Blazers in Portland. The financing is also more nuanced than many people realize. One proposal under discussion would use bonds backed by tax revenue generated by the team and arena activity, including income taxes tied to player salaries and related economic activity. Supporters argue that the arena helps generate the revenue used to repay those bonds while preserving jobs, tourism, and economic activity downtown. Critics argue that it's still public financing and that those public dollars should be directed toward other priorities instead. It's also worth noting who was inside the event. The protesters weren't just demonstrating against the Business Chamber or a billionaire team owner. They were protesting an event featuring liberals such as Senate President Rob Wagner, Senator Kate Lieber, Mayor Keith Wilson, and Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson. JVP is particularly interesting because she has often aligned with many priorities championed by the DSA and Portland's leftists. And based on the signs, this wasn't just about the Moda Center. Protesters raised concerns about workers' rights, corporate influence, PCEF funding, data centers, social housing, and more. Today’s protest is bigger than financing the Moda Center remodel. It's about two very different visions for Portland. One believes strategic public-private investment is necessary to rebuild and revitalize Portland and keep major civic assets viable. The other believes public resources should be directed first toward government-led programs and social priorities rather than partnerships with private businesses. My Latest AI short was made with Seedance 2.0 the model that has been firing up the internet over the past couple of days. I made this in two and half days and it's an original short that is based on HP Lovecraft's work which is now Public Domain (No Copyright infringement here!). If you are not into period romances then bare with it as it gets a more little action packed in the second half! The model is brilliant at both performance and action, you can now make convincing dialogue and action sequences for AI cinema. With this model we have now reached the stage where we can tell any story we want with AI, the tools are capable. This is only 720p at the moment but I suspect it will be upgraded to 1080p very soon. We stand at the threshold of having broadcast quality tools capable of creating anything we can imagine available to everyone, so lets do new an interesting things with it.
