October 19 isn’t a vote to secede. It’s a non-binding vote on whether the government should begin the legal process toward a future binding referendum. And even if a future separation referendum passed, Alberta still couldn’t simply leave Canada. Secession would require negotiations and an amendment to the Canadian Constitution, covering issues such as assets, debt, borders, and the rights and interests of First Nations, including treaty rights. As for “the USA will gladly take you,” you mean Trump and a handful of other right-wing figures. They don’t speak for the entire United States. You’ve left out some pretty significant details.
